where do we think yesterday’s result leaves Pompey’s season heading, even at this early stage?:-

Automatic promotion
Play off place
Mid table
Relegation fight

Thoughts?

It all depends on what happens over the next month IMO

Scenario's
1. The football improves dramatically - and the team start gelling
2. The football improves slightly
3. The football stay the same
4. The football and results get worse.

If we are looking at 1 or 2 - jacket will still be here.
3 or 4 - and I think there will be a new manager.

You could argue that scenario 2 is the worse situation for the club.

if this thread is still going at the end of October - it will be interesting to look back.

mid table, keep mentioning play offs to keep us happy. Maybe better business in january to shore up the defence.

I believe the season turned on the Coventry game. If we trotted out 3-1 or 4-1 winners we most likely would have had the confidence to build on that result.

As it is, we look like a very average side with a leaky defense. Without drastic improvement we’ll be battling it out to scrape 6th.

Midtable, comfortably outside of the play offs

Can’t see us battling it out for 6th ...... I’d say 11th or 12th place finish with the season effectively being over by April for us . Sad but true IMO with current squad

Agree Ped Coventry are highly rated and could be Promotion Challengers so a win was within our grasp and would have been a good scalp to have had, and given us more confidence. In my opinion the Eisners will let Jacket carry on until after Christmas if we look as if we are just going to finish mid table they will start looking for a replacement.

Do you think the Eisners care too much about promotion at this stage of their ownership ?

Bottom 3 might already be decided. We are way off last season's team so I reckon 9-13th which should see KJ out.

I think the Eisner's want a good return on their investment and three seasons still languishing in the third tier does not make us look successful. We have come to a grinding halt from promotion contenders to also rans and going backwards can't be in their plans. If Jacket cant do the job after all this time get someone in who can!

I just can't understand how such a defensive minded Manager like Jackett has invested heavily in attacking players Marquis Harrison Harness and Williams when he hasn't got any attacking intent in his body. Attacking players only work well with a Manager of the same intent, Jacket will try and install his defensive mindset into their play and destroy every bit of attacking flair they possess. You don't drag players like that back for corners and free kicks which is what Jackett always does (even against nine men), he just cannot change.

Pompey were second top scorers last season. That doesn't sound ultra-defensive to me.

"Home grown players they said". They appear to be sticking with that if you look at the academy players - as 14 out of 20 are local lads.

So 10 games gone. 14 points behind automatic promotion and 4 points above a relegation spot. 1 game in hand in both cases. Can we forget automatic promotion option and do we need to start looking over our shoulders?

we have a cunning plan. Late run to finish 6th, guarantees victory in the play off final. Forget all this coming third with truckloads of points.
