Text grab from the Snooze

Away fans have been advised ‘not to drink’ in the city when Pompey play Southampton at Fratton Park.

Posting on the Pompey Supporters Trust website, treasurer Donald Vass said he and others met with the police on Saturday.

He said he was told during the meeting that there would be no designated pub for away fans, and they would be ‘advised not to drink in Portsmouth’.

It comes after Hampshire police revealed there would be no ‘bubble’-style police operation that previously saw clubs' opposing fans bussed in and out and prevented from taking other transport.

In the post, Mr Vass said: ‘For away fans opting to travel by train, there will not be any ‘football special’ trains laid on as there will also be many commuters travelling around the same time.

‘Away fans will be advised not to drink in Portsmouth, and there will be no “away designated” pubs.’

In the 2010/11 season police only allowed fans to use the bubble coach system, with no other transport allowed to and from fixtures involving Southampton and Pompey.

But Mr Vass said later this month there would still be coaches put on. They will arrive at a 'sterile corridor' near the away entrance.

He said: ‘Away fans will be offered coach travel which will arrive in a “sterile corridor” near the away entrance, and police expect significant numbers to opt for this method of travel.

‘This will in effect mirror the 2011 operation, while giving other fans the freedom to travel in other ways should they choose to.’

Meanwhile, players being substituted during the match could be allowed to leave the pitch via any touch line, in an apparent bid to avoid any clashes between fans and players.

It comes after a new rule brought in this season means players coming off have to leave at the nearest touch line.

Mr Vass said: ‘During the game, police will advise that the new rule instructing players to leave the pitch by their nearest touch line should be relaxed.

‘A decision on whether or not to hold away fans back after the game, allowing home fans to dissipate, will be taken nearer to the fixture.’

The evening of Tuesday, September 24 will be the first time the teams have met since April 2012.

Seems like the old bill are basically saying “come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough”.

Wonder what would happen if they said actually, there’s going to be no police presence whatsoever before, during or after the game. Dumb question maybe, but wonder how bad it would actually be [?]

Exactly what we were talking about at the weekend.
Looks like they’re going to sit back with their cameras let everyone get on with it then give them all the 6 o’clock knock afterwards.
Makes their lives easier lazy coonts.

Well I've got my ticket and on the basis of the relaxed policing policy I'm sure this will be friendly affair with both sets of fans fans sharing cigarettes, drink and having a kick about much in the manner of the Christmas Day truce between German and British soldiers during World War One.

Or carnage. One of those two.

Can you imagine any pub landlord giving scum their pub to drink in?
It simply would be the end of that pub!
Attacked on the day and shunned thereafter

So much difference between the cities.
I'm gutted to be leaving for Sicily on the 23rd for a week long holiday.
The other half would never forgive me.

Well Grumpy, you are wrong when you say Pompey fans are stuck in the 1970s and the game has moved on. You obviously have not seen a Celtic v Rangers game then as they haven't moved on from 1690!

If you don’t like what people say on here why don’t you stay on your own forum.

Anyway I don’t think it’ll be that bad this time because everyone knows if they get cuffed they have a very good chance of doing a bit of time.
Now I hate scummers and would like nothing more than to smash a size 10 Loake into their throats but it ain’t worth doing bird for.

Grumps even in this age I can assure you any scummer setting foot in Pompey without police assistance is/will be an open target. And if after generations of no show there is now a mob of scummers willing to come in and give it large then it will become very very messy. You dont need to be a rocket scientist to figure this out. Since 1970 I think I have missed just one scummer match this will be like all the others.. Scummers bottle jobs.

Thing the main reason they've been advised not to drink in our pubs is because they don't serve babysham, have games rooms, and no straws are available. Also heard their lot can't handle their drink and might end up sh*gging a 60 year old prowling divorcee.

In all honestly smirnoff I can see this one pulling well in the hundreds for us. As been said before a new breed of lads wanting to prove themselves, a lot of older looking for one last glory day and all in between. It might not be what happened in 84 but no doubt this one will be nasty.
