Now with Bolton getting fitter and showing promise plus Haunstrup playing well we have sorted our wing backs out. Downing is establishing himself at Centre Half KJ needs to sort out who plays with him out of Raggett, Burgess, or Naylor? I would prefer Naylor there as imo he is better there than in midfield leaves Mc Crorie with Close in defensive midfield. Then Pitman at 10 and we are sorted with Maloney challenging Curtis and Williams for a winger spot?

Close is not a defensive mid-fielder. I'm not sure what he is. Naylor has been outstanding there this season-our most consistent performer.

Burgess in back four with Naylor and McCrorie in front.

Close is an attacking midfielder, the 11 goals sicne January lend strong evidence to that. Only Pitman and Lowe had a better scoring rate last season and Close only started about 30 games due to Ben Thompson rightly being in front of him in the pecking order for most of the 1st half of the season.

Play Close in behind and I'd put money on him getting 15+ goals this season. Hell if he can get 11 playing in a defensive role I'd love to see him in an attacking one.

That's the issue Close is not a defensive midfielder so logically Naylor and McCrorie should be there if we agree that Close is more attacking than the only position for him is number 10 so that would mean it's either Close, Pitman, Evans, Cannon vying for that spot. They all have there merits but IMO Pitman is our best goal scorer so I would pick him there!

McG
Bolton Downing Burgess Brown/Haunstrup
Harness Naylor McCrorie Williams/Curtis
Pitman/Harrison Marquis

Simple KJ has only 3 choices to make LB/LW/CF

4-4-2 Then. Brown if he's fit, Curtis (No idea what Williams is like) & Definitely Pitman (Harrison Not in the same league.
Will Kenny take a chance on this line up & formation though? Pretty unlikely I know buy our league form hasn't been good.

Naylor needs to go into centre half or nowhere, because for a midfielder he canít pass wind

Cannon is the closest we have to Ben Thompson.

I would start him with McCrorie any day of the week. Close flatters to deceive.

this is laughable.

'Close would get 15+ goals in the season'
'Naylor centre back or no where'

Naylor has to play def mid, we miss him.

Maccy G
Haunstrup
Downing
Burgess
Bolton
Mcrorie
Naylor
Curtis
Harness
Cannon
Pitman

Close definitely ain't a defensive midfielder cos he's got no idea how to tackle but a decent player to bring on when we need a goal.
McGilvaray
Bolton Downing Burgess Brown/Haunstrup
Harness McCrorie Naylor Curtis/Williams
Pitman Marquis

It's laughable to suggest that someone who has scored 11 goals since January from a defensive position would score more often if they were played in an attacking role?

You're right about Naylor though he has to play as Defensive mid, although his passing range leaves a lot to be desired.

These posts just show how undecided we ALL are about our best side maybe its because we haven't seen our best side playing yet. The players we are undecided about most are Close, Naylor, Cannon and Pitman the others seem to be pretty much nailed on. Evans it seems falls into the subs category along with Harrison, with Walkes, Raggatt, Bass plus Pitman who flits in and out of this. If Cannon scored more goals his work rate is exceptional then he would be nailed on, but at the moment its either Close or Pitman.

^^

Good point well made.

I'm not sure why we're bothering to debate this anyway, Jackett won't change. He'll continue to play a CB at RB (Burgess), a Defensive mid at CB (Naylor) and an attaching mid at defensive mid (Close).

Portsea - Good line up & hope KJ takes note. Could get him out of a very big hole!
