For me, Ben Close. He's come on leaps and bounds

repeatedly on Hawkins. He improved massively last season, then his lack of finishing ability put him down again, then he strode up and scored that penalty......

Crouch. I was naive and very, very wrong.

Sol Campbell. I used to think he was highly talented but very self opinionated and arrogant and cared very little about team mates and fans.
Then I realised he was just a bit of a cuunt.

Scott Hiley.

When we signed him I thought he was just a useless scummer reserve.

He ended up something of a Pompey cult hero.

Controversial, but...

Benji - Ran around a lot but seemed like a waste of time striker and then that sheer effort turned into winning the ball up top for assists and then suddenly turned into goals.

Linvoy - Started with Darren Moore and didn't seem as good and he made a few mistakes, before turning into an absolute quality defender in the Championship and Prem, lost his place a few times but still fought his way back. Pompey legend

Most recently would be close. He proved me wrong.

Toddy is probably the biggest one

Jamo. I'd totally bought into the Calamity James thing. Of boy was I wrong. Brilliant keeper, the best we've ever had in my time.

Probably Close, he's better than he was.
Sheep_blue, you actually had negative thoughts about a player? I'm guessing someone hacked your account [cr]

Aaron Mokoena.

Thought he was fŁcking terrible and an absolute liability but ended up being ok in our cup run.

Still ended up getting relegated so must have been quite sh;t but remember my anger getting directed far more at other players, than him.

Does that count?

Papa Diop, when he first came I thought he might be tasty, a couple of games in I was wrong, very wrong. He was one of the most useless players to wear our shirt. Feckin head like a Rubik's cube.

Ditto papa.
Prosinecki and merson!
Ashamedly I'd written both off before they had kicked a ball.
Both must be in top 5 pompey footballers in my lifetime!
Someone I rated after seeing him in France was John Utaka and after the goal against Bolton I was all 'told you so' after all I had just seen him score two hatricks in France on consecutive weekends. I was over the moon to have found us in for him.
How XXXXXX wrong was I?!

Kyle Bennett - 2 goals on his debut had him challenging with Gary Roberts for signing of the season. Unfortunately, nothing he did after that came remotely close. Ever.

Luke Nightingale and Steve Lovell both had storming starts as young strikers that amounted to nothing.

Dave kitsons debut against Leicester was one of the best of my life time (at least from my seat)
Never got near that again and is a bit of a coont

Always took Kitson to be a level headed and intelligent footballer, and an example of how someone suffering depression can come across negative/with a bad attitude to the initiated.

+1 for Close again yesterday, what a thubderXXXXXX of a goal that was

That bird who is a regular guest on men's and women's football. I never thought she was that attractive - but now I reckon she's a bit of a looker.

Based on the 45 minutes against Tranmere I'd have to say John Marquis.

Ben Close.

I must admit i didnít think he had quite enough about him.

I was wrong and he is maturing into a very good player indeed.

I am really pleased to have been proved wrong.

Heís Pompey too, so itís doubly pleasing. 😁
