No whenever I've watched him he looks switched off not sharp at all prefer Bolton but we do need a back up when he gets injured

Donít agree- one Schmitt pass across the box second half apart he defended well. Canít judge on crosses given the wind

Thompson is the better player, he lacks real pace but reads the game better and is a natural leader with plenty of experience, yep he wanted to play at a higher level, who can blame him for that but it hasn't worked out for him so far, but I don't see that as a reason for KJ ruling out any sort of contract, seems a bit short sighted and weakens us defensively, shame, maybe a pay as you play could work for both parties, we are not tied to a long term deal and he gets to put himself in the shop window. wont happen though

He wanted to better himself and you cant blaim the guy for that. Do we want players who cant see themselves playing at a higher level when thats what the club is aiming to do?

I donít rate Walkes in any position, let alone full back. The back line looked totally unbalanced with him in it and we were lucky to get away with a clean sheet.

If we can sort out that position, weílll be looking good for another promotion challenge.

Most people post-match thought Walkes had a poor one and unfortunately that happens too often with him. Thompson is better but can sling his hook for good.Hopefully Bolton is a decent player.

Prefer Gareth Evans to Walkes at right back which really tells the tale doesn't it

Walkes has played well at right back on several occasions so we know he can do it, he just needs to be more consistent. He probably needs a decent run in the team to do that but I think Bolton is first choice.

We can forget Thompson..there is no chance at all that we will re-sign him, training with us is just a favour not a statement of any intent.

If we have a decent young player who can steadily improve, and benefit the team, then he will be playing a bit under the new Pompey philosophy. If we have two of these for the same position, then a 28 year old player who formally played there but wants more money, but is much slower than the other two and isn't brilliant going forward might be permanently jettisoned due to economics and club mentality.

He's just had a trial at Man City. It's a done deal pending results of a dental medical.

Thompson has left, move on!!

Walkes made a few excellent tackles on Saturday.

Regardless of whether Thompson has gone, Walkes has proved time and again that he is not a right back.

If we want to be successful we need to fill that spot with someone who is.

Saw Walkes play on Tuesday, looked stronger and really up for it.
Was not there Saturday as we are away on holiday. He is younger than thompson so should improve, especially with Jacket's proven ability to coach players.
I certainly felt uncomfortable with him at right back last season, hopefully Kenny knows what he is doing and he can grow into and make it his own position.
It will be a very tough game at Sunderland, if he is picked then he has the chance to show he is up to it, or not.

Thought Walkes was poor but maybe just an off day for him. Evans and Bolton to step in if needed. Presumably Bolton is meant to be first choice.

It's the heading of the ball that's the problem. Walkes likes to head the ball back into his own box!

He did put in a very good tackle to take the ball off fake Mo Salah on Saturday mind.

Hammie think you are spot on regarding KJ.
Didn't want him at our club don't like his monotonous personality, but i have been pleasantly surprised by his football acumen especially with improving younger footballers.
Considering the method and planning way forward by the Eisners I can see KJ ability to coach/improve players as a good fit for Pompey.

We all know KJ is a very good coach itís just his annoying habit of putting square pegs in round holes that bugs me. Walkes is a decent squad player but Iím not sure if he warrants a regular first team place, he can tackle but on Saturday he failed to beat his man several times when attacking and his passing/ lay offs were dreadful.
