Next season's transfer budget

KJ has said that the transfer budget for next season will be the same as for last season. This means then that good Cup runs, a Wembley Final, extra revenue from the play-offs, more TV matches & excellent crowds have made no difference at all to the budget. In fact, taking it further, if all the above hadn't happened. could next year's budget even have been reduced?

If they are doing stuff to the stadium, it's not an issue. It reaffirms that they should be looking to get some form of corporate facilities in ASAP.

What was the budget last year?

Or could it be that the club have made a little profit this season (due to the reasons you gave) and are happy to keep it that way in case anything goes wrong this season and doesn't end up crippling us again.

For me, as long as a decent percentage of money received for selling our prized assets gets added to the budget for both transfer fees and wages then I see no issue. Selling Clarke and Lowe and replacing them with freebies would end up causing a bigger issue, but we have to see how the summer pans out before criticising 'next seasons budget'

HTF can you interpret KJ’s comments about next year’s budget like that? He said the playing budget ie wages will be similar, absolutely no reference to transfer budget other than that any sales £ will be reinvested in new players.

Are you really saying you think there's a separate playing budget and a separate transfer budget? I disagree I'm afraid. When he says there'll be no increases in resources (other than that generated from selling players who want to leave), it seems pretty unambiguous to me.

Maybe PFC are good poker players. Only a fool shows their hand. And Pompey have been mugged many times before.

You can’t base a transfer budget on a good cup run most transfers are 2-3 years. So yeah if your trying to live within your means the transfer budget will be the same. Now if your saying the owners should overspend and invest their own money on players then that’s fools gold we’ve been there. investing in the ground, facilities increases Revenue then that increases transfer budget, sound economics. That’s what they said they would do. You could look at Sunderland for example they spent what 4m on Grigg plus his wages would they do that deal now?

I think it was about £3.4M which is a joke! Sunderland spent more than that on Will Grigg. If we want to be serious about promotion next season we need to double that. We all feel let down this season after such a good start. But we didn't strengthen in January to push on.

Fcpompey are you happy with us being a League 1 team? Nobody's saying go mad with the spending but it would be nice to see a decent budget

"Or could it be that the club have made a little profit this season (due to the reasons you gave) and are happy to keep it that way in case anything goes wrong this season and doesn't end up crippling us again".

Sounds like Community ownership to me.

So, no change then.

And didn’t go up.

Agreed but at least they showed intent. The gamble didn't come off this time. Wigan didn't want to sell but the Mackems increased their offer to £4M so they grabbed it with open arms. The three teams promoted all played good football 7 Pompey & Sunderland both played Hoofball to a battering ram up front.

At least they showed intent?

We showed intent when we signed about 10 big names that were financially way beyond our means.

Look where that got us.

Intent doesn't put points on the board.

Give me today's set up over Sunderland and any previous financial model we've had over the last 15 years any day.

Different situation to Pompey as they needed to get back to the Championship at the first attempt.

I'm trying to be positive, and think it may be a ruse, so clubs don't charge us over the odds for players we want. However, the players we did get at the beginning of last season were generally good. It's always the January window where Jacket f*cks up.

Of course I would like to see us promoted, I just feel the most important thing is getting the infrastructure right first. Once that’s in place we’re be able to generate more money. Spending money on good young players and developing them. I’d be annoyed if we don't reinvest the profit we make on players sell like Matt Clarke for example. But I willing to wait and see on that
