I have particularly fond memories of watching him stoop to spit in the face of an opponent who he'd just scythed down. A moment of sheer class never to be forgotten[smi]

RIP Definitely the hardest man in football. If only we had him in our midfield now. They don't make them like that anymore.

They certainly donít make them like him any more, that side he played in was a joy to watch, they were all hard as nails and fought for the shirt and each other.

No limp surrender in those days.

Sadly Mick couldnít have played in modern football, he would never have finished a match and would have been permanently suspended.

Thanks for the memories Mick, you will never be forgotten in these parts. RIP

We don't get that many blokes like him anymore. Too many hormones in the water, crap in the food, too many Louis Spence's on the TV, too many safety nets for nippers today, too many men expected to show their feminine side. What's next - look out for the transgender agenda - oh it's already here.

He was part of the Pompey team that I first regularly saw and supported (1986). Loved that Alan Ball team, can still name the 1-11 like it was yesterday, team hardly changed from week to week. That and the 1992 cup semi final team my favourite ever Pompey teams. Very sad - RIP Mick.

I enjoyed watching Campbell's team in my first full season. But Alan Ball's team led by a proper captain was the one that I first followed all over the country. As noted above, the same team week in week out and never ever left an ounce of energy on the pitch. Sad.

Mick Kennedy a ball-winning midfielder in the Brian Lewis, Bobby Kellard mould, absolute joy to have watched these players, late 60's,70's, 80's - we desperately need a captain in this team like him.

So very sad to get this news i loved watching him and that team.

During Ben Thompson's brief stay there were some similarities in the way they both played if somewhat tempered out of necessity by the modern way of things in Thompson's case.

RIP Mick Kennedy and thanks for some great memories.

Just a few days after i saw his last match for us ( what a day out that was) deacon the plank sold him to Bradford. Went from euphoric to downright angry at the time. He was our engine room a great Captain and servant in what was up til now the most loved team. What a bunch of misfits and boozers they were...closest team that i have witnessed that resembled the spirit of our great city. RIP Mick... PUP.

He epitomised everything that's missing in the current squad. Always remember him returning with Bradford and putting in an abject performance for them simply because his heart remained in Pompey.

Mick's funeral is on Thursday 14 February in County Clare. It is noticeable that his death notice only mentions Pompey out of all of his former clubs. Anyone wishing to leave messages of condolence can do so on the website: rip.ie - County Clare. It is a very Irish thing but will be greatly appreciated. Rest Easy Mick.

I don't think Mick died in Poverty (unless I'm wrong), he mentioned he lived in a beautiful apartment in a small town in Ireland. Unless his family really do need the funding I'm not sure why there is a 'gofund' me page unless it's another modern way of expressing grief and publicly acknowledging it.

Not clear that this is endorsed by his family.

I actually take the view it is crass to take ownership of Mick Kennedy as Pompey property and Pompey's responsibility in this matter.

It's presumtive and disrespectful to his family.

Should have made contact with the family to ask for their blessing and then gone ahead with a charity fundraiser in his honour instead of they said no.

Someone has got carried away with all the right intentions here.

It was 'researched'before it was started. It has reached over £4,000 now, just a way of showing his family just how high Mick Kennedy's stature was by wanting to contribute to a good send off.
"Yes mate. Went through a number of sources to make sure was appropriate before we started."
