Ricky’s Friday Fact - this week: the moon

Did you know, only 12 human beings have ever walked on the moon, and of those 12, only 4 are still alive, with the youngest being 83 years old. If we don’t return to the moon in the next 20 years, it’s highly likely there will be no one alive who has been to the moon.

That is a good fact.
Any idea why space exploration does not include going back to the moon ?

No one has ever been on the moon, that is the reason that no one has ever returned. Fact.

It's not that expensive. While the original Hollywood sets where they faked the moon landings may have been destroyed, they have CGI now. They might even get the shadows right, next time. [;)]

Wouldn’t say there’s no need to go back, a base on the moon could launch future spacecraft a lot easier than we can from Earth. Plus there’s likely to be mining opportunities worth trillions.

The moon is old news. It’s all about getting to Mars now. Loads of projects going on to put someone on Mars in the range of 2030-2060

Do you mean Mars? We've been to the moon. In fact it would be easier to launch a spacecraft from the moon as there is no gravity to propel it through, hence saving on fuel and payload.

Ricky’s Friday Fact - this week: the moon

Unless the majority of the spacecraft's mass (parts) and fuel are created on the Moon, little is gained by a Mars launch from the 1/6th of earth's lunar gravity. What is likely to happen is for automated helium 3 mining to take place on the lunar surface, though there may well be aesthetic objections to the pristine surface being spoiled, as well as earthbound conflics arising from the competing claims for lunar resources.

NASA recently released a video of what has to happen when landing on Mars...

Isn't it amazing that the official story is that NASA apparently simply cannot go back to Moon because they have lost the documents and technology which they used when they first landed on the moon. Wow.

I seem to remember the archive footage of Kennedy in the early sixties saying they would achieve the feat by the end of the decade - but now apparently they need all the data to repeat the feat.

Also amazing is that this fact is still flying a week later! Stonker of a Friday fact, that.
