Sunderland 6/4
Barnsley 9/4
Pompey 3/1
Luton 11/1
Peterborough 18/1

Sunderland’s 6 consecutive victories push them up to favourites.
We need to get that sort of run going.
What’s the most back to back League wins we’ve had this season?

Four. The first four. Since then we've not managed more than two in a row, mostly because of our awful home form.

Sunderland SHOULD be clear favourites for promotion with their huge Premier League parachute payments. Think it was the Donny gaffer who said that Lee Cattermole's wages alone were bigger than the entire Donny playing budget!

Three big games coming up before Christmas:

Sunderland vs Barnsley
Barnsley vs Pompey
Pompey vs Sunderland

If we can at least match the points tallies of the other two in these games then we should remain in a great position

3/1 is a bit surprising given we’re top and 5 points clear of third

In all honestly with Sunderlands team, finances And infrastructure to not get promoted would be hugely embarassing. Same with Barnsley. Their team is championship standard. I'd we finish above either we'll go up automatics.

Our awful home form reads

P8 W4 D3 L1 GD+6

5th in the home form table, not too awful is it?

We've been third favourites nearly all season. Even when we were 6 points clear. All the time it's relatively close with so many games left then that order won't change an awful lot.

Isn't the bloke who used to own eastleigh part of the ownership consortium at Sunderland?

It’s a shortlist of 3 since all the other teams are over 10/1, although that may change.
Another reason we’re 3rd favourites is because of the teams we’ve played.
Of the 17 games, 11 have been against the 12 teams in the bottom half of the table.
Only 6 have been against teams in the top half.

Indeed but out of those 6 teams, have we lost any?

That’s a no!

We’ve won 4 and drawn 2.
Not too shabby I’d say

Stewart Donald, The Sunderland owner, did use to own Eastleigh. Fortunately he screwed up there.

One of the main reasons it's a three horse race is because, based on performances this season, us and Barnsley are the front runners (with Luton and Coventry also doing well), while Sunderland have been getting better results than their performances due to having better players. Cant see it being anyone else in the top two.

Blueview. Between now and Xmas we only have to play 2 of the current top 6 (both games being the other two sides) whereas Sunderland and Barnsley still have 3 of the top 6 to play each. As we are only 6 games short of halfway then the games each team have played so far can't be too far of being the same. If anything we may have had the harder fixtures considering we've already played 4 of the top 9 away from home (admittedly our away form isn't the problem at the moment.)

One of the village idiots phoned five live complaining Hughes had them playing like an Allardyce team. Then demanding their board sack Hughes and bring in Allardyce to get results. Was it you Val?

I heard an interesting chat on Talk Sport with Micky Gray Ex Sunderland saying that the club had turned the corner & the fans we coming back in their droves. 30,000 for Home Games in Div 1 is unbelievable. Also their wage bill is currently £11M down from £20M last season. Lee Cattermole is on £80K & Jack Rodwell on about £50K. With the team they have they should be walking the division but they're not yet. We just need to keep being positive & believe we can get automatic promotion. I'd like to see a couple of signings in the January transfer window. A decent striker maybe Eaves & a commanding midfielder.

Yes on the evidence of the past Barnsley and Sunderland have the funds from the drop that Blackburn and Wigan also had for a bounce back.

From a Pompey point of view right now Sunderland have the momentum and don't have Fratton fever tat causes us to muddle about at home. Barnsly are more vunerable.

We could take an auto slot if we can raise team fitness and mental strength (ie not like running out of ideas in the 70th minute more than one at Fratton when drawing.

One last thing we need to work out how to play better than our opposition in mud, rain and driving wind cos we play in England and that is cannot be Costa Del SOlent every weekend.
