I do find it laughable how pro EU supporters have this ridiculous idea that they are the great and good of all Europe. Especially when you consider it is not the same union we initially signed upto .You can kind of understand it from anyone under 30 years of age as this is all they have known for their entire adult life and have been brainwashed into this false reality. When infact the powerful and non democratic union "self appointed" hierarchy are anything but good for the many. I also find it hilarious that these pro EU whingers like to moan about a british person displaying their national flag, but the same people have no issue with seeing them when they go on their holidays to say Spain or France.

All provinces and territories in Canada fly the Maple leaf and their own provincial flags. Although the Quebecois would like independence they still respect and fly the Canadian Flag.

There won't be a humiliating climbdown by the UK govt; they don't dare, for that would lead to the end of the political class as we know them, as well as an insurrection. It's the same reason why the latest rumoured 'compromise' regarding the UK/ROI border won't fly; the EU won't wear it, and it will be May's downfall.

The only way for us to really prosper is to cut the EU shackles and trade with the world. Germany and France need out market, they will not have a trade war with us.

Why the feck would we tie ourselves to a single market when there are many markets?

Highlander, I remember very well what the country was like before we joined the ‘Common Market’. We never actually joined the EU did we?

The country was a dump when the Unions held it in a stranglehold and the likes of Skargill stifled any kind of enterprise. We have a modern day equivalent in the RMT, which continually holds the long suffering travelling public to ransom by striking for no reason.

The sooner we get out of the protectionist club that is the EU, the better it will be for all of us. You may wish to be ruled by a load of unelected globalist bureaucrats, I most definitely do not. The days of subsidising French farmers and German industrialists and allowing our fish to be plundered by all and sundry must come to an end.
IP: Logged

Pondering your ‘dump’ statement further Highlander, Britain in the 70’s was a far nicer place than the EU inspired multi-cultural ‘paradise’ we now inhabit.

Just a casual stroll round the once pleasant streets of good old Pompey confirms that. Have you walked through Fratton Road, Commercial Road, North End, Stamshaw, Eastney etc. etc. etc. lately? They were vibrant in the 70’s but have now become dismal, lifeless, litter strewn, begggar infested dumps.

People like me who spent most of their life in Pompey are saddened by it’s decline and the sacrifice that has been made in order to accommodate the insane globalist plans of Sorros and co. Multiculturalism (as opposed to multi ethnicity) has been, and continues to be, our undoing. It was obviously a barking mad idea from the outset and, despite the left’s bleatings about ‘enrichment’, so it has proved.

The EU has been an unmitigated disaster for the UK.

Common Market with individual countries able to retain control of their destiny yes, European Union ruled from Brussels no.

To clarify for a few who seem to want to appear as simpletons.

The shop in question which I walk past at least once a day has been open about 3 years seems to have no customers, I've seen 3 customers in that time. Nothing to do with austerity.

The points made should make you wonder how the shop can be a genuine business proposition.

Tricky, I am all for people from all over the place living together but there is the point in a nutshell.

Multiethnic societies live ‘together’, multicultural societies live alongside each other in close proximity, that is always a bad thing.

Fragmented societies always fragment further.

SS, everyone gets a free education. People who go to university (far too many these days, wasting their time on such lofty subjects as ‘gender studies’, ‘media studies’ and the like), end up with a debt that the vast majority never pay. The student loans available, at very favourable rates, are something I would have bitten your hand off for when I was a student.

If you are in your 50’s and really believe there is austerity, you haven’t been paying attention.

It’s a buzzword now, nothing more, nothing less.

Personally if given the chance to get today’s student loan options and having to pay fee (if I earned enough money), I’d have bitten your hand off back then.

If 40% go to uni you can’t make it free and you devalue the whole thing anyway.

Deebo, yes Canada was great, cheers.

Spent time in Toronto, Winnipeg, Jasper, Banff, Calgary, Vancouver and places in between. I can confirm that it is very, very big [:D].

The Rockies were the highlight for me and we actually got to see a black bear on the trail, scary or what? We’d been told that the elk were more dangerous as it was the rutting season but when you’re close to a wild bear you’d take elk any day..

Another highlight was the beer, microbreweries are springing up all over and the range of good beer surprised me.

Canada is great and I’m definitely going back, I’d like to go further up to Churchill and the north next time.

I didn’t get caught up in the Transat thing but the Air Canada flight out from Heathrow ranks among the worst I’ve had and there have been a lot. It was late, the staff were surly (if I’m being kind), the plane was dirty, the food was crap and half the bogs had scruffy ‘out of order’ signs cellotaped to them. The one that I managed to get into looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks.

Would recommend Canada though, great place.

Deebo, yep I agree with that, the people went out of their way to be helpful. They are so helpful that, being a suspicious Brit, you think they must have an angle. Turns out that they are genuinely nice and friendly.

The cars stopping for you is so unlike England that it takes some getting used to, can you imagine cars stopping for you in Pompey? [xx(] visiting Canadians must think we are a bunch of barbarians. We hired bikes in Vancouver and the pecking order was pedestrians, then bikes, then anything else, then cars - the exact opposite to the UK [:D].

I agree about the cost too, my wallet is considerably lighter [sad].
