The pitch

Is it my imagination or has the pitch been narrowed and shortened slightly ? I donít remember that much space in front of South stand and also the ME.

A prelude/trial for ground development options ?

Possibly as there is room to manoeuvre in pitch dimensions.

I thought they shortened it as much as they could when they built the Fratton End. Iíd be interested to know what the dimensions currently are though.

Definitely shorter. there's a greater run-off at FE. Might be for player safety.

Well spotted Wrighty- you could well be right about the pitch. FE goal looks slightly further over towards North stand to accommodate for touchline being further in in front of South Stand. Not sure why this has happened- maybe pick cutting up worse there because of the shadow- but The Snooze haven't picked up on it.

spoke to a mate who knows one of the ground staff about this very thing and he had some interesting things to tell me not just on that. Pitch is not shorter its same but they took away a meter of the real grass run offs and turned it into astro turf apparently because they have done (scoreboard) and are planning loads of work on the stand rooves which involves cherry pickers which destroy pitch so they made the astro bigger but actual white lines pitch is still same size if you follow. Also he mentioned the blue nets i saw there was a thread about it-they change the nets every year at the stadium because the EFL don't allow nets to become old and damaged as they are scared ball will go through a broken net and that will cause all sorts of problems so they have brand new nets every year or anytime a net is damaged-he didn't say why they chose blue over last years blue and white nets. As for pitch he said that it was much worse than last year.

Well it looked fantastic yesterday. The grass takes a little time to bed in doesnít it? Wasnít long ago that Wembley had similar issues with the pitch cutting up.

The pitch

The pitch measures 115 x 73 yards, and is aligned from east to west, which is considered unusual in English football, as most other pitches are orientated north to south.
