Sterling on defenders shoulder first half. Dropped deeper second half giving them a chance to play further up.

Lets put it this way, when Sterling went off their defenders stepped forward about 5 yards. And his replacement, Rashford, was woeful.
If anyone asked Croatian defenders who they'd prefer to face I doubt they'd say Sterling.

Why are we looking for scapegoats? You can vilify any and every player if you wanted to.

We played well, had a good tournament and just lost out. Itís not the time to bash players.

Rashford tonight showed his inexperience, very good player but needs regular PL football before Euro 2020 if he is to become a regular and deliver for England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Great few weeks and they did us proud, now only three Saturdays before we stuff Luton and another journey begins.

Sterling has done alright. He puts a ridiculous amount of pressure on defences with his speed and ability. Unfortunately he has lacked end product in this World Cup. Also it is the case that whoever comes on for him adds much less to the game for England then he did.

Feck me Stan, you donít even know anything about football [:D].

Sterling was rubbish throughout, yes heís got pace but has absolutely NO control of the football.

He scores goals at Citeh because heís surrounded by world class players, even there he misses most of the chances handed to him on a plate.

The other one out of his depth was Vardy, totally anonymous whenever he came on.

Gaff by name and gaff by post. [cr] I agree Sterling's end product could be better. He was still one of best players on the park in the first half though, and had their defence in all sorts. We really should have walked off 3 up, Sterling played a integral part in that effort.

Did he get an assist all tournament? I know he didn't get a goal. Yes hes fast and his movement might be decent but at the end of the day for an attacking player that started nearly every game, to get no assists or goals is pretty pathetic.

If Kane had taken his chances last night we really wouldn't be talking about this. That's how we've been set up and Southgate wanted it.

The important thing is tha the team played for the shirt and made us proud of them, which is as it should be.

Iím merely pointing out that Sterling isnít very good in international terms, Iím not blaming him for anything or questioning his attitude and effort. He is quick but never has the ball under control and he panics when he gets a good chance. He scores goals for Citeh because he is surrounded by world class players but even there he misses sitters virtually every time he plays. If we want to go one better next time we need someone better than him

Vardy was given 8 minutes last night! How much did u expect him to do in that time? I'm not a sterling knocker and think he done alrite the past two games. But if you're going to play him as a striker next to kane then we may as well have played an actual striker like vardy who has the pace but knowhow of being an actual striker.

18mins wasn't it for Vardy, but he hardly had a pass to run onto after he'd come on. Not his fault. By that time a lot of our team were blowing out their XXXXXXs whereas Croatian fitness levels were much better, even after all that pressing from the very start of the 2nd half right through extra time. Fair play to them. Hope they win it now.

Raheem Sterling has played 43 times for England as a central attacker. He has 2 goals. (two)

Vardy was given no chance in this competition. He needs the service that Sterling got, and wasted. When he was brought on, it was because England were trying to mount some sort of prolonged attack, the area Vardy wanted to operate in was congested.

That's a bit harsh IMO. He wasn't great but he did cause some problems on occasion, albeit inconsistently and often frustratingly. We're just not blessed with any genuinely top quality creative players at the moment. Ironically enough that role looks like it could be filled by a Pompey boy in the near future. Mason Mount is supposedly the most highly rated youngster in Chelsea's academy system.

But considering Sterling's played some absolute crap like San Marino and Scotland in qualifying his scoring record is nowhere near good enough.

But hey we just got to the semi final with our youngest squad in over 50 years, scoring the most goals at a tournament for years, with some of our most important players on the first few caps and you absolute tubes put a negative spin on it.

I don't think anyone said he was sh!t because he didn't score. It was because he is unable to properly kick the ball with either foot, or head it, has no vision and has the feel for the ball of a tin man. His unbelievable non goalscoring record at international level is way beyond pathetic.
At City he gets away with one yard tap ins and a free kick every time he chooses to go down, at international level that doesn't work.

Sure, a young side did just get to the semi final of the world cup. But, in a world cup of very little quality, if we'd put our strongest side out, then we could have won the bloomin thing.

A week a go people were saying this has been one of the best WC's, now suddenly I see people saying its been low on quality. Which is XXXXXX of course. There's been plenty of quality on show, just not from the normal suspects. Would those bemoaning it rather Germany, Brazil, Spain etc had stayed in-even though they deserved to crash out?

Don't care who's providing the quality, as long as there is some. Been some great goals, but on the whole, not as much quality football as you'd expect.

Just can't see how anyone is defending Sterling's contribution to England. Suppose we sign the lad Eisa, he plays 43 games next season, scores two goals and virtually no assists. Would any of you be saying that's an ok return, or would we all be thinking it would have been better to give the shirt to someone else?

PLEASE don't compare that waster with the legendary Walshie. Of Guy's 42 (ish) goals, he created about 30, plus he scored over 10 himself. He didn't just run about aimlessly and get praise for tiring the opposition out a bit.

I loved Walshie, but to suggest he was better at football than Sterling is laughable. Sterling's just scored 22 goals for the league champions, Walsh had one great season playing the likes of Grimsby, Port Vale and Peterborough.

Control Walsh
Power of kick in either foot Walsh
Vision Walsh
Ability to score all types of goals Walsh
Intelligence Walsh
Ability to weight a pass Walsh
Tackling ability Walsh
Ability to run 100 metres fast (if you don't fall down before you get there) Sterling

You make your own mind up

On the honours front - Walsh is slightly ahead. He also only got 5 caps - but scored 1 goal - from memory he said to Bobby Robson that he was really tired when asked to play a particular game for England - and he was totally sidelined from then on in.

Interestingly - Bob Paisley said he was very selfish, and needed to be played as a lone striker at Liverpool. That doesn't sound like the Walsh we saw at Pompey. Sterling may yet turn into a very good player - if Walsh is anything to go by. Time will tell.
