Anyone remember the I.O.W. brewery Mews, we used to call it "Mews spews"[xx(][8D]

I liked Mews. Not to be confused with Friary Meux. I liked that, too. My old man used to moan about Fielders. They had a brewery in Tiichfield and only about a dozen pubs. I remember Fielders but they had been taken over by Whitbreads by the time I started drinking.

My god, Watneys, especially Red Barrel, it was enough to put you off beer for life.

As for being taken over by Whitbread, I used to have a ‘Whitbread Tour of Destruction’ t shirt which listed all the breweries that had been taken over and closed down by them. They did all that, then got out of brewing altogether. XXXXXXs.

great ads in the 1970's but weak as p**ss

And now:

A couple of seasons ago after a game in Hartlepool we found a pub still selling Whitbreads Trophy (the pint that thinks it's a quart) and Woodpecker cider on draught.

We chose something else I recall!

Camerons was a great Hartlepool beer. I think it's still marketed but it's no longer brewed in Hartlepool and it doesn't taste the same as the real deal.

Harry the Yid talking right though his Aris again. Double Diamond was brewed by
Ind Coope of Romford, Essex. Not West Mids.Does Harry have any connection whatsoever with Tottenham?

As young teenagers we’d have a four pack of Ind Coope Long Life beer and a bottle of Emva Cream sherry down on the beach behind the Osborne View in Hillhead.

Does anyone remember the old Marmion Wine Stores?

You could take your own bottle and fill it up with rough sherry, plonk or cider.

Rough as old boots but did the job [:D]

Yep. Also our local Watney's pub back in the day did that in their off licence. Cheap but cheerful.

The Crofton was the one I'm referring to. The landlady was very la de da & called everyone "dahhling". ha ha.
My real local back then was The Swordfish but I did also go down The Osborne, Mr & Mrs Captain & occasionally sighting of Sir Alf Ramsey. (did his National Service with Mr Captain)

my parents loved Bristol Cream but would put up with Emva Cream as a cheaper alternative. And talking pubs, used to like going to the Coxes before it was knocked down. They did a Newcastle Exhibition Ale which was great (not Newkie Brown)

Hilarious. Ind Coope was latterly brewed at Burton after the Romford brewery closed. Google it FFS. Then check Google maps to see where Burton is in relation to Birmingham FFS.

Hammer, I used to like Exhibition too. I think Newcastle used to do Brown, Amber and Exhibition. Sadly they don’t brew in Newcastle any more.
