Ricky's Friday Fact - this week: lifts
Did you know, worldwide, lifts travel a total of 3 billion miles each year, but despite that, there has only ever been one recorded incident of a lift in use failing and plummeting down a lift shaft. This was in 1945 when a B-25 plane crashed into the Empire State Building and severed the lift cables at the 71st floor. The lift was occupied by a lone woman who survived due to the cushioning impact of 1000ft of cable at the bottom of the lift shaft.

Not true Ricky, I've been in a lift that's plummeted down the lift shaft several times, at the Hollywood Tower Hotel in Paris
