I know this is probably a heart over head thing but just have a feeling that this squad could do pretty well. They seem to have a good team spirit and togetherness. What you reckon?

Should have made Henderson captain, take some pressure off Kane. But for me Vardy should be the main man, he's too good to be sat on the bench

Kane is head and shoulders above Vardy IMO.

Kane doesn't look particularly sharp, and Alli has gone backwards big time.

I dont like the squad.... Over hyped spoilt premier shiiite players who are not a patch on Johnny Foreigner....

Should have sent a mix of u21's and the U19's that won tournaments lately.

50/50 we scrape thru the group stage behind Belgium

Should have taken Shelvey instead of Alli. Shelvey would would have been the perfect supplier for Vardy too.
Always liked him since he gave Alex Ferguson a double volley when he was sent off at Liverpool.

Kane doesn't look sharp [?] He's just scored 30+ goals in the premier league and scored in the friendly Saturday.

Unless we have a decent winter break - say 4 weeks, learn to keep possession better and have a British quota system for PL teams (say 5 players) - we will continue to be abysmal at tournaments.

We are always so knackered - and it gets worse as the tournament continues.

They said last night during the game that the Spain squad has around 10000 more first team minutes than the England squad for this tournament. The whole winter break and our team being tired argument is a load of tosh!

England have been crap at every single tournament since 1998 - apart from a little flurry in Euro 2004 - that timespan includes teams where we had some great players who were also experienced i.e Terry, Campbell, Ferdinand, Cole, Neville, Scholes, Gerard, Lampard, Beckham, Rooney, Owen etc.

These teams mostly performed very well in qualifying - but Why were they crap at tournaments?

Gulf, there's been some incredibly poor management in that time. Last Euros we qualified with ease then Hodgson decides to rip up the plan & also makes Kane our main corner taker.
Qualifying is often easy enough ish but major tournaments will show any floor in players & management. Poor tactics, temperament, susceptibility to injury etc etc.

What are load of negative and crap posts.

Jamie Vardy instead of Kane !! don't make me laugh - playing with Kane is an argument but no argument to replace.

Also the golden generation - we forget we lost on penalties to Portugal in Portugal - remind me how much further they went - lost on penalties to Argies with Campbell's disallowed goal, Ronaldinho's flute goal - we just didn't get the luck as much as we weren't quite good enough

Send the U121/18s etc - you are kidding me !!!

I was a big sceptic of Southgate, but I think he has handled Rooney and everything very well - the formation, I don't like it much but I haven't see us be so comfortable - lest we forget we drew with Brazil and Germany as part of the unbeaten run. Getting past last 16 would be par, quarters probably best this team can do

Oh yeah, since when did Shelvey become Andrea Pirlo - he's a good passer but isn't athletic enough without the ball

Rant over !! apologies to all

Maybe playing players that can’t even get into their respective club sides will be beneficial? They’ve been saving themselves all year for this moment.[^]

Based on the half hour i saw last night I'd go with Loftus-Cheek in the middle with one of Dier or Henderson.

Yes, I remember the golden generation were so good - they needed penalties to have a chance of getting past teams after they had been outplayed and withdrew into their own half for most games.

If you look back at 86,90 & 96 - England were playing great inventive, decisive, spirited football. 98 was also OK - but sice then we have for the most part been embarrassing at tournament.

Loftus-Cheek - yes he should be one of the first names on the team sheet - and I think Southgate will use him a lot.

In my opinion England are crap in tournaments because they are tactically inept and too scared to lose/play.
We always come home disappointed saying if only we played.

We never said that in the old days Prozac. I seem to remember the press saying - we played with spirit and desire, but maybe we weten't quite as skillful as some of the other nations.

What seems to have happened IMO - is that we have become more skillful - but have lost our spirit, and we have also been playing players mostly from the big clubs - which seems to breed arrogance. Think of Terry trying to take on the manager in 2010.

For me it's about a style of play whuch we have never had. Think of ze Germans the Spanish both have a very well understood style of play that they all know from a young age.

That's what we are doing now which is part of the reason the nippers keep winning.they are coached on that style of play from the moment they enter the set up.

Bodes well for the future imo.

=Our players will be as skillfull (better facilities 4g etc)
=our best players play against world class players week in week out
=our pitches are better now reducing injuries and burn out
=our players are as fit as any

= they will all have played in and won some tournement in their youth

We gonna win this one or the next one[8)]
