Clarke debate

There was a debate amongst fans in pub before match on Saturday on wether we would get under or over 2m hard cash for Matt.
Majority thought under 2 mil with perhaps add ons as he is a defender and not a striker who go for more.
What do you think, I believe we will want more of a transfer fee,as we don't need to sell unlike Webster and Wallace, due to change of ownership?
Over 2 million.

It depends who is buying. If it is a premiership club I would expect us to get about the 2m mark, maybe up to 2.5.

If its a championship side we would be lucky to get more than 1.5m.

The more important thing is that we get a sell-on clause - that could be worth as much again as whatever fee we get now.

But is there a release clause?

21 year old with over 100 1st team appearances and 3years on his contract. Should be at least £4mill. I’d be disappointed if he went for less. That’s not a lot of money for a championship team to splash.

Anybody know if there is a sell on clause due to Ipswich?...there is one in place due to us for Adam Webster which was part of the Clarke deal sureley they looked after their end ?...could be a sizeable sum

Put him on eBay and see what happens. Seriously in the future there will be player auctions live on SKY.

If Clarke goes, do we think that the fee received will be announced? Will it all go on to the playing budget or go towards meeting other costs? When all is said and done I doubt we'll ever know.

Catlin should demand a good young player + cash deal. If the buying club really want the player - they will conform.

Doubt there’s a sell on fee for Ipswich considering he was part of the Webster deal. If anything we’ve got a sell on clause for Webster, not the other way around.

Read on the Ipswich forum he was a 100k make weight in the Webster deal and they are hoping he has a sell on clause in any future transfer.

I agree with gulf. A decent youngster, cash and a future sell on clause would be good. Thankfully the powers that be at our club now know exactly how this should happen and there will almost certainly be a sell on clause in any deal!

Gone are the days of us having our pants pulled down over deals because we have no choice but to accept. We are in a position where we can say no and demand a better deal!

Similar debate here and because defenders don't fetch the cash strikers do we thought under 1 million was more likely.

He will play in a lower-mid Championship side and currently no higher - the new club would have to bring him further.

I can't see any more than £750k plus add-ons.

Optimus, you have to be joking. He reminds me a lot like Harry Maguire who recently signed for Leicester for 12 million, rising to 17 mil after appearances etc. Ideally I'd want around 5 million for him though I suspect we'll probably settle for around 2. A sell-on clause is a must.

Fouleye, Maguire was an experienced 24 year old with proven high level performance in the premier league, and was being sold by a relegated premier team.

You cannot possibly compare those circumstances with Clarke, who is three years younger with only lge 2 / lge 1 to speak of.

Yes, Clarke could become another Maguire in a few years but if you want to compere them compare them as 21 year olds when Maguire went to a premier team from a league one team for a deal worth 2.5 with extras, beating off a bid from Wolves of 1.5m. That's the maximum type of figure we could expect if a premiership club came in, but I'd rather get 1.5m to 2m with a sell on clause than 2.5m without.
