Paul Paton earns contract at Plymouth

Derek Adams believes he has got a good signing to help see them into the play offs!
Paton goes straight into the squad for this weekend and could find himself playing Pompey in a month.
If he was good enough for league1 why on earth did we not sign him to see out the season?
He could've of been a revelation playing for his future and just what we need, a combative midfielder.
I have to ask if the Eisner's think it's fair that Pompey fans should have no hope of winning a game between now and the end of the season?
I'm not joking when I say where can we get another point from?
We are that bad now.
Kenny Jackett must've an almighty close season planned. It's just a shame that season ticket holders have been shortchanged!!!
Without some serious recruitment one way or another season ticket sales maybe down next season. I will be waiting until the very last moment to get mine and won't bother if nothing has changed regarding recruitment.
I'm fed up of having weekends ruined by watching XXXXXX football currently on offer at fratton.

I really tried to find some logic in your post somewhere. I really tried.

We desperately need midfielders and Paton would've more than fitted the bill, especially until the end of the season. If nothing else it would take the pressure of Close and May. It should be interesting to see if he plays against us when we meet in April.

So it doesnt matter he has been released from a scottish div 1 side. Doesnt matter he could be rubbish. As long as he has midfielder on his cv we must sign him !!!

I actually know quite a bit about him as he's a N.I international (albeit not a regular). He's played very well for Dundee Utd and lately St.Johnstone . If you check their website a lot of people were surprised he was let go, he's only 30 and good enough for L1.

BTW St Johnstone are an SPL team not a Scottish div 1 side. Do some research.

Prozac, this is mental!

How does the club develop it's youngsters - if the manager keeps giving games to older has-been players?

How good will our youngster be next year - if they play more games?

So logically Main would be good enough for us as a spl player for st Johnstone?

For a start Main plays for Motherwell, and he never played many games for us so we'll never know. Using your logic we shouldn't have signed Lowe or Hawkins because Ryan Bird was poor .

G.O.T, Paton could've helped with Closes 'education' as he's got a lot more experience, and it could've taken the pressure off the lad.

Can't Donohoe or Thompson do that?

Not really as team performances have proven.

Thompson is more of a defender and is needed at Rt back and judging by Saturdays performance, we need Donohue at L back.

Its all irrelevant anyway as Paton has signed for Guzz, but he is first and foremost a central midfielder.

Haunstrup is back, and Walkes can play a few games.

Its that experience thing again. The young'uns need a few older hands around them . We haven't got that at the moment. One of the many things that will hopefully be addressed in the summer.

My point being, as a season ticket holder I feel a little down at present. We plainly need a combative midfielder until the end of the season. All our youngsters are learning is how to lose at present.
Would a short term contract have really been too much for us as a club to countenance?
It would have gone some way to solving an obvious problem for the manager and the player himself (by the way is more than good enough for this league) could've helped the youngsters and thirdly helped the crowd enjoy the remaining games of the season.

How do you know that Paton "is more than good enough for this league" Mr Depressive?

"Mad" Addams may have signed him so he can speak Jockish to someone that understands [:D]

Mad Adams may well of done that but he does seem to have weathered the storm and turned Argyle into a genuine play off seeking side.
As for the player himself, go on his previous sides boards and see for yourself what others think of him.
Now I'm off to increase my dosage and look forward to our next home game

Looking at the number of Pompey league 1 (and 2!) rejects that have done well in the SPL shows you that it's no guide to quality. If KJ had wanted to sign Paton, he would have.

Time will tell if it's a good or bad call.

We're not going up or down this season, so no point wasting money on players we don'T see as part of our long term plans.

Its a strange one."He's not good enough for us, or because we don't recruit older experienced players" say some, others want "our youngsters to play all the time as they will only improve that way"

Well I say , he's not good enough for us but is for a team higher than us ? particularly when you consider how XXXXXX our CM currently is. Also our youngsters are currently having 1 good game in 10 and there's nothing to suggest they'll be any better next season. Maybe this is as good as they are.

All in all a very strange season that's ultimately been wasted away.

It took 3 seasons last time under Frank Burrows then Bobby Campbell to get from the 3rd tier to the 2nd tier. Only 3 players remained that played anything like regularly in the 4th tier that were in that 1982/3 Championship winning side.

Football may have changed a lot in those 35 years BUT the difference in the ability of players Division to Division during in that time hasn't - be patient it takes time, when we go up we want to stay up.

Personally I feel KJ would've signed him if it was only an end of season deal, but I believe the player wanted a minimum 12 month contract, and as he obviously wasn't part of KJ's long term plan he didn't sign him.

Now that is a good explanation BT. I'd only be looking to the end of season unless he covered himself in glory.
It would've been a deal for me for the fans to entertain them in the remaining home games which frankly I can't see to many points being gained now.

Prozac you actually make a lot of sense. I stated on here recently that he would be ideal for us at least until the end of the season & potentially longer if it worked out. He's got Central Midfield experience at a good level & would have fought hard for a contract as he was suddenly dumped by his club & is desperate to provide for his young family. KJ may have fancied a short-term deal but didn't have the funds.

"KJ may have fancied a short-term deal but didn't have the funds"

What rubbish - if KJ had wanted him he would have got him - we've had several players contracts either partially paid up or ripped up - don't tell me there wasn'tenough funds ffs
