My ratings yesterday

A very encouraging performance against a very good team. After looking like we were going top get swamped in the first 15 mins we came back and after equalising looked the most likely team to win for a while. Thoroughly deserved a point and sickening that the goal came from such a rarity - a mistake by Clarke. But still good to know how close we are to the top teams in this division.

McGee 8 Two brilliant one on one stops kept us in it
Walkes 8 Looks better every game, strong at the back and a real threat up front. Great ball for Chaplin's header.
Burgess 6 Did OK defensively, but his passing further up the field was uncharacteristically useless today.
Clarke 6 Looked strangely off the pace in the last half hour, looked like he was maybe carrying a knock. Bit unlucky with the goal, but what was he trying to do ?
Donohue 8 MOTM for me. He gets better going forward every game and most of our threat came through him. Needs to learn to head the ball further in defence though.
Close 4 Started poorly and took 75 mins to get going this time instead of the usual 15. He could perhaps do with a rest but with our injuries he will not get it.
Thompson 7 Again took 15 mins to get going, but he is looking better going forward as he learns the role. He did look totally knackered though after 75 mins though so needs to improve his fitness to play there.
Evans 6 Came closer to a goal than recently but his delivery is still inconsistent. Love his drive and determination though.
Chaplin 8 Possibly the best game he has had when starting, certainly this season. Took his goal well and never stopped running. Could this be the start of a run to establish himself in the team ?
Lowe 5 Good combination play with Donohue in the first half but drifted out of the game again in the second. Probably should have been subbed earlier.
Pitman 7 Good game apart from his finishing, laying the myth that he does nothing when he is not scoring. Walsh-like jink through their defence in the first half deserved a better finish. I'd still play him behind Chaplin though.

Subs
Both too late to have any impact.

Jackett 6 Got the starting eleven right IMO but delayed his subs too long when we were tiring and they were taking control back again at 1-1. For me it should have been Naismith for Lowe after about an hour cos their keeper was dodgy and Naismith's long range shooting could have caused him problems. Didn't deserve to lose from a individual mistake at the end.

Ref 7 Thought he got every big decision right and contributed to it being a very good game to watch.

Agree with donohue, think he's been really good the past few weeks and nearly all our goals are coming as a result of a cross from him.

The game was too fast for close, their midfield just played through him far too quickly and shows that he wouldn't be ready for any step up in my opinion.

Hate to say it but burgess is the weak link at the back at the moment, thought the other four at the back (including mcgee) all had decent games and we still conceded two goals. Possibly burgess' worst game for us, hopefully he comes back stronger from the mistake to cost us the game.

Clarke was immense as usual yesterday against a right handful of a striker. Very unlucky with the deflection for their goal.

We created enough chances to get something from the game, but by the same token McGee made a couple of great stops. A draw probably would have been the fair result overall although Blackburn tended to play the better quality football throughout.

Thompson's lucky he didn't have his leg broken after that challenge on him.

If long-ball football's the way Jackett wants to go then we'd be better off with Chaplin and Hawkins up front, but not sure where that leaves Pitman. Playing long ball football with either a)no height or b)no pace up front seems a pretty strange tactical approach to me.

I think you've overmarked Close by 3.

PFCblues .... I saw no mistake from Burgess for their winner. Clarke surely [?]

It's unfortunate for Burgess. Because he is just an average defender, Clarke makes him look
below average, and as shown last night, when Clarke is not on his 'A' game and not covering for his central defensive partner, it really shows Burgess up.

Yes, definitively Clarke.

My bad, just seen the highlights, for some reason thought it was burgess at the time as he was the one being helped back up after the goal. I sit in the Fratton end low down so sometimes struggle to see exactly what happens at the Milton end haha.

I stand corrected and will head to the naughty corner [cr][ref]

Burgess was absolutely shocking. He was better off suspended. Close was shown up totally in the first half at least, and Pitman trudged round like a hippo in wellies. The rest put in a decent shift but we were outclassed and lucky not to lose by more. Only McGee kept us in it. KJ's idea of substitutions left something to be desired. Our midfield is completely lacking in creativity and there is nothing we can do about it this season. It's been an OK season but plenty of work to do in the summer to bridge the gap. I know we are only 4pts off 6th but the reality is a lot more. Our results against top 10 sides beggars belief.

I'm not sure with us being lucky not to lose by more. Mcgee made the early save with the 1 on 1 but I don't remember him having another save to make? They only had four shots on target and obviously scored two of them. We had twice as many shots overall but they weren't you would call clear cut chances. For me a draw would have been fair. They were decent for the first half hour but didn't offer an awful lot after that

Presume DB is being ironic with the 7/10 for the Ref. Langford has to be one of the weakest officials going. How many times did Blackburn players kick the ball away after a fk had been awarded against them. Once or twice right under his nose ffs.
@ least he got the red card right, shame he didn't in May 16 when Plymouth clogged us in the 1st play off game.
I hope we never see the likes of Langford, Cooter, Gavin Ward @ FP again. They all fall under the label of useless.

The strangest decision for me was the free kick he gave when the keeper kicked it straight at pitman. Pitman had genuinely just turned round to run back and the ball was kicked straight at his back, at no point did he move to try and block the kick or anything!

Ref also help their keeper when he came out for the ball, fell over a player (I think it was his own), dropped the ball and then immediately gave him a free kick.

The punt that hit Pitman was a terrible decision though. Pitman was running away and he kicks it into him. How the XXXXXX is that a free kick?

Surely the ref changed his decision immediately and waved play on? He had nothing whatsoever to do with our losing.

It wasn't a free kick .. he appeared to give it but then he allowed play to continue.

Evans 6 (six). I don't think so. Anonymous and very poor on the few occasions he got involved. Offered virtually nothing.

Thought Walkes, Clarke, McGee, Donohue, Chaplin and Thompson were our best players. The rest I'd give between 3 & 4 just for turning up.

He blew his whistle after it hit pitman. Whatever the decision was had it hit him and gone in it wouldn't have counted. Free kick or not it was an awful decision.
