A liability so far tonight. Almost gifted them with two goals. Think he may need a rest. Been a good game so far, we could have scored a couple but they might well have scored a couple more too. McGee has made two or three excellent saves. PUP

I think McGee has been sensational. First part of the game I thought Blackburn were a division ahead of us, never mind a few places.

it does sound like Close is not at his best at the mo, probably best to give him a break before the boo boys decide he is the one to target.

In his defence he had a better second half but he doesn't really seem to create anything. He's normally available and gets in some good challenges but I think Ronan should have come on for him with half an hour left. He's still a young lad and is learning his trade but I feel he may need a break.

They were just better than us through the centre of the park. Close and Thompson battled well, certainly in the 2nd half. Ronan should have come on to try and create something though.

I thought he was our best player in the second half...

He was poor in the first half and picked up a bit in the second with some nice link up play in the Blackburn half. The fact that it was his worst game for us since his first couple of the season shows how much he's come on under Jackett. It's pretty difficult for any central midfielder though playing against a top team and seeing our defenders punt the ball long at every opportunity.

I know it's not done to criticize a young player too harshly, although he's not that young.IMO I thought Close was desperately poor last night. His was a classic 'hiding 'performance, particularly in his own half, chugging around, not wanting the ball, and somehow making opposition players look like Messi or Ronaldo the ease with which they sail past him with no challenge being offered. This has been going on for past few matches not just last night. There,I've got that off my chest but don't feel better for it.

He's going backwards at the moment and looking more introverted with every game. He needs a break and basically padded through the game without any confidence all night.

The problem is we have no replacement for him! We are already playing a right back in centre midfield and he's plying well there thankfully.

Close has this wonderful knack of running all around midfield, without actually being near any opposition player when we are defending. Do a playercam style and follow him during a gamefor five minutes. And a real lightweight in the tackle, as the move down the right for Blackburn's second goal typified.

That is spot on cebublue

I watched him for ten minutes against MK Dons and all he did was run about chasing the ball. He never challenged for it and when he went up for a header there was no real intent.

It was like watching an under 12 B team player who doesnt have a clue what hes doing.

Hooray! Pompey have finally got another young home grown player to knock the confidence out of!

You boys must have been desperately scratching around since Dan Butler got shown the door. Now you've got someone new to pour your bile, spite and hate out onto. Well done you!

Close hasn't looked the same player since Rose got injured, think he needs a rest but small squad won't allow it to happen, though I do get frustrated watching close and may jog round the pitch not tackling,Don't see away team cm performing like this, hopefully this season jackett will sus whether our youngsters are good enough to start next year.

Close is learning on the job. Hes going to make plenty of mistakes this year. He has shown massive improvement since the start of the season so deserves a little slack playing against the best team in the league along side a defender as his pairing.

He would be better suited playing alongside a more experienced player AS HE HAD BEEN BEFORE THEY ALL GOT FARKIN INJURED FFS. He needs a person who can help his positioning and coach him through matches so to start getting on his back isnt the right thing to do.

I disagree that he is making lots of mistakes, I wouldn't blame him if that were the case. That would at least mean he was in the game and trying to learn, rather than simply going through the motions which I think he's doing at present.

"needs rest but we have no replacement"
Thompson can cover the right side/defensive midfield. So we need a left sided midfielder who likes to get forwards and take a pop. ??? Donahue anyone? otherwise we might as well send the loanee left back back home.
