Speaking to a mate last night about supernatural stuff. Hes a normal (ish) bloke but reckons hes seen a few strange things in his gaff. Shadows and footsteps. Tv turning on downstairs. Makes me think if there is any truth in it then portsmouth (with its vast history) should be a hot bed for the paranormal.

Anyone on here seen unexplainable things ? (Not the kind down commercial road on a tuesday morning)

I remember being given a Fortean Times book about 30 years ago, and it was full of stories from the Portsmouth News. However, as for truth, they were about as accurate as the Sunday Sport, i.e along the caliber of Hitler was my decorator & my son was turned into a fish finger by aliens. Unfortunately it showed The News as having a vivid imagination (same with their sports reporting) rather than there being lots of paranormal activity in Pompey.

I lived in Festing grove, house backed on to the cemetery.
Had two separate incidents, both with different members of my family. We both heard the same thing.
One was when I was reading to my daughter, we heard a door slam and someone run up the stairs really loud.
We were the only ones in the house at the time.
Other time my wife was in one room, me in another.
Same noise as before, I called out, "was that you ?"
She said, "no, I thought it was you "
I 100% believe in the paranormal.
Nothing to be scared of.

I worked in a building in the city centre that was an old barracks in a previous life.
I was asked to work on a Saturday morning one week to finish a job.
About 30 mins after arriving I heard definite, quite heavy footsteps coming down the corridor.
Looked out and nothing so went back to work.
10 minutes later exactly the same..heavy footsteps in the corridor outside.
I then phoned security who checked CCTV and nobody had entered the building so sent a team to investigate.
We checked every nook and cranny..nothing.
Needless to say I didn't hang around.
What they had omitted to tell me was this was quite a regular occurrence and that it was reckoned to be some of those who never returned from the Great War.

Woked in a Pompey pub for a while. The kitchen had those swing doors , the type you might see in an old cowboy film. .

Was making myself something to eat and all of a sudden the doors started swinging then they slammed open and I heard footsteps running across the kitchen.
Remember a feeling of being suffocated .

Parents of a good mate of mine were decorating their bedroom. Took all the lightshades off and moved bed to side of room. That evening his old man downed tools to get a drink. When he went back in the room the light had turned off, he flicked the switch - nothing.

He found the lightbulb on the end of the bed. If if had fallen out the light fitting it would have landed on the floor 5 feet away...

My in-laws used to live in a big house in the country dating back to early 1800s. Quite a few spooky things happened when we were there, we got pretty used to it all. The one i recall which really put the wind up my sails was when I was watching MOTD on my own when they'd all fuucked off to bed. They had a big old sideboard and there were birthday cards lined up across it. I heard a noise and turned round to see one card moving slowly, still upright, forwards about 12 inches and fall off the front, none of the other cards moved at all.
I went over and picked it up, put it back and fuucked off to bed sharpish.
And to answer the question everybody has asked me since, no I didn't look to see who the card was from, I wish I had!

Brian Cox will tell you it's all impossible due to the 2nd law of thermodynamics bla bla bla.

He really is a silly cu.nt, goes on like science is complete and we have a full explanation for everything. Which of course we don't.

Brian Cox looks like an ex mate of mine, ex because he shagged my girlfriend while I was working away for a couple of months. Therefore I consider Brian a cuunt just like my ex mate.

When I hear scientists saying things like travelling vast distances through the universe @ great speed is impossible. I always wonder what the human race will have achieved (if it hasn't blown itself up) or be capable of in say 1000 yrs time. I bet science will have evolved to a far greater degree than of today.
That's why I think some UFO sightings are credible & where some scientists let themselves down badly.
Creepy stuff, had an old bloke sort of shuffle out in ft of me @ Park Gate once, had to brake quickly, looked around to sort of mutter silly old fool, gone. Zilch-nothing there. Hairs on the back of my neck standing on end etc. Weird.
I get the impression that sometimes "hauntings" are things from the past being replayed somehow. The interactive ones though-who can explain that.

Our civilisarion has only really been around for a few hundred years since the renaissance. Assuming a civilisation doesn't blow itself up it could be around for millions of years.

If that's the case though, as Fermi said, where are they?

Sometimes the whole thing feels a bit like a game that's been designed, the human race has enough fossil fuel to get so far but must get to the next level before they're used up. Then at some point we'll need to leave the planet in order to survive etc

I've had that past-replayed thing when I was living in small flat in Balham.

It was Euro96 and I was watching England v Spain, went to the little kitchen which was no more than an open cupboard against the living room, something happened in the game and I turned around to see the tv and saw this bloke in a celtic top looking around the door on the other side of the room - and then it was gone. It wasn't ghostly, or creepy, it was just like a replay.

Or maybe we're all living parallel lives with others that we're not tuned into being aware of. Woooooo....

This is how things will pan out.

A future pandemic or catastrophic unspecified global event is inevitable. This will devastate the worlds population. Only the rich, lots of self important politicians, a selection of good looking chicks and some really clever fckers (nerds) will survive. The positives of this will mean the worlds remaining resources can be properly utilised for scientific advancements. The really clever fckers (nerds) will develop android robots. The first task of these robots will be to destroy both the rich and the politicians as they bring nothing to the table. The good looking chicks will be spared in this necessary cull (obviously). The really clever fckers (nerds) will be side tracked for the next thousand years as they develop advanced penle enhancement technologies that actually work. At this stage, the average human pens will be an impressive 11.5 inches on the slack and be as girthy as a coke can. From this point forward, artificial insemination is the only way human reproduction can occur as females show no interest in developing advanced super wide vgina technologies in response.

Once the nerds decide to knuckle down and crack on with the less important stuff we will ultimately advance to reach out properly into the solar system. Unfortunately, near light Speed travel will never be realistically possible (due to the time it would still take to safely accelerate/deaccelerate to and from such speeds) so a different approach would be required for interstellar travel. Eventually, Generation ships will be sent out into the galactic void each with specific star systems as destinations. Due to the magnitude of such a task, at some point in their thousands of years journeys most will fail. Any that by chance arrive at their chosen star systems will hopefully find a suitable planet capable of sustaining life. If it is capable of sustaining life, life will already exist there. If that planets sentient life is at a similar or more technological level, the human descendants on the generation ships will need to claim refugee status and beg to be allowed to live on that planet. If were more advanced, we will become invaders from space and take their planet from them. Alternatively, a barren planet might be able to be terraformed. Terraforming a planet or large moon will take thousands of years. Either way, members of the human race remaining in this solar system will never hear from the Generation Ships again.

A few billion years from now, the Sun will reach the end of its main sequence stage and start expanding, becoming a Red Giant. If it already hasnt, life on Earth will become untenable so any humans (or whatever it is we evolve into) remaining on Earth will decamp at first to the colonies on Mars, then inhabit the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter before finally moving to the moons of Io, Europa and Titan. From these vantage points they will be able to witness a heavily carbonised Planet Earth being engulfed by the Red Giant Sun as it reaches the Zenith of its expansion. Observers will watch impassively as this charred black rock burns. It means nothing to them. It will have been many, many millions of years since life existed there.

The human race might (by some miracle) still exist in the solar system as the dying embers of the sun shrink down to become a white dwarf. Any remaining energy in the solar system wont be replenished and will get used up or lost. Mankind will have ceased to exist aeons before the remnant of our once life giving sun has cooled down enough to become a black dwarf*. Eventually the black dwarf sun and any of the atomic particles that once made up humanity will fall into the super massive black hole existing at the centre of the galaxy. And then what?**

Either all that above, or theories on Wormholes/hyperspace are proved right, we develop the technology to harness their potential, escape out into the cosmos, and we go from there. Who knows? The future is wide open.***

*Interesting fact - No black dwarfs currently exist anywhere in the universe as the universe isnt thought to be old enough for any star that has ever reached the white dwarf stage to have cooled down enough so that it no longer emits significant amounts of light.

** All energy is finite. All particles succumb to atomic decay. Eventually there will be nothing. Not even a void. The end of the universe will be just like the inside of the Scummers Trophy cabinet.

***Anyway, and more importantly than all of this, who plays up front for us Saturday at Southend?

DB, In the field of astrophysics, Jermaine Defoe classifies as more of a darker shade of Chocolate Brown dwarf* and not a full blown actual black dwarf. The astronerds are very specific about these things. I get the feeling these astronerds might be a little bit racist.

*Less interesting fact. Brown dwarfs do exist out in the cosmos. They are proto stars that didnt gain enough mass when forming for nuclear fusion to commence at their centre, therefore the hydrogen core doesnt ignite and you dont have a shiny new star on your hands. They arent actually brown though. Like I say, astro physicists = racist.

Spot on - Brian Cox = massive nob. the sheer arrogance of some of these 'scientists' is breathtaking. And we will be stuck with him on the BBC for decades. Anyone who played keyboards on the song that propelled Tony Blair to power deserves to be hung, drawn and quartered.
