Working in South Wales this week, crossed the bridge a thusand times but sitting here having a beer got me thinking, why the fvck do wehave to pay to enter Wales? they dont pay to enter England ffs, I dont give a XXXXXX about the way back, I actually begrudge paying to enter our own country (in essence) and after a google or two it seems that the French own the bridge ayway. What the fvck is going on, no one pays toget on to Portsmouth or Hayling or even in the UK. I get there are tourist taxes all over the world but a bridge over a bit of water?

give me strength

But surely the toll has nothing to do with the fact that you are getting nearer to Wales, it is just to pay for the cost of building the bridge. Like the M6 Toll or the Dartford Tunnel bridge and many other toll charges throughout the UK. None of them are border charges.

The French own the Dartford qe11 bridge as well. Its fuuuking wrong that foreigners can own such things on public highways enforcing their own rates of tax and making billions.

The French only own 35% of the Severn Bridge.

It would be interesting to know
A. How much it cost to build
B. How much it's cost to maintain since
C. How much they've recouped in total

I bet C > A+B

Obviously, otherwise there would be no incentive whatsoever for private firms to build the bridge.

You'd hope that once they'd achieved a contractually-agreed ROI it would be returned to public hands, but I think in reality the rent-extracting endeavour will continue indefinitely. I'm surprised Branson hasn't got in on the act yet.
