Easier, less risky, less hastle ways of making money than a league 2 club with a 100 year old ground

When you already have £1,500,000,000 and can afford to give 10% of that - £150,000,000 - to charitable causes, why would you be aiming to 'make money' out of buying Pompey? At best, after 5 years, you could maybe get back £10,000,000. Really small change for a billionaire.

ok - I'm convinced. He really loves Pompey and agonises over our inability to play two up front.

He was down the Park on Tuesday, and he probably fancies having the Fratton End sing his name, and if he wants to build up the club at the same time, then so be it.

Some people seem to think that if you have money, you cease to become human.

Imagine if you were in your 70's and had billions, do you not think it might be a nice little project to sling a few million at a football club and build it into something to be proud of?

Yeah Ricky I am sure his wife and children and grand children even as we speak are telling him go on dad/husband/granpa spunk away all our inheritance on an ego trip.

Anyone who makes serious money is a shyster.

Someone who has made huge money has ceased to be human because they will have got it unfairly in one way or another.
Let's say the guy really is a warm hearted philanthropist. Do we really want to be the tart hanging off the shoulder of a rich guy? Don't we have a chance to make something of this fan owned model and retain the respect and admiration of many other fans and clubs?
Or are we folding at the first hurdle and puttng our hand out?
We need investment obviously, but to slip into business jargon, we're a solvent, well run concern with a loyal customer base capable of growing and good assets. Surely it must be possible for such a business to attract investment without selling up lock stock and barrel?

And how are we going to fund the rebuilding of Fratton Park?

Anyone who thinks this guy is doing it for the money really needs their head testing. Perhaps he wants to buy into English football and sees the potential in a club like ours to bring it through the leagues rather than spend £300m on an established Premier League club.

Can hardly question his credentials so let's wait and see.

The Milton End and North stand need some serious repair, we are all agreed. The south stand is not the most modern..The other three coastal teams around us have all had new -ish grounds and massively increased attendance and revenue. It's clear to me that we could do the same if we redeveloped or even sadly moved to purpose built 36k stadium. Its also clear that wages in the championship cannot be paid for by an extra 1 or 3 k attendance.

However here in Plymouth they are looking at £5m to renovate their old stand or £15+ to build a new one. I guess for us to turn the stadium a quarter turn and rebuild north and ME stands its gonna be £50m..not sure we can do it without investment sadly.

I don't know whats best

Regarding the ground and finances, is there no such thing as a business loan anymore? Because like it or not, that is effectively what it will be when anyone pumps millions into a football club with the only difference being that a regular bank loan can be managed and agreed before the money is pumped in without the erratic whims of a yank venture capitalist who WILL own a majority stake.

Why are some people so desperate for the premier league? Have you seen the health of football right now, even in our lowly current division? It's a chaotic and expensive mess. Do you really want to be a part of that? How long will we survive? How much money will it take? What happens when people wise up to the complete waste of money pumping this kind of money into football is?

I thought we were building something here with the trust and fan owned model, taking an alternative route. Is that only for the bad times?

Why not get there gradually without selling the soul of the club and keep the fingers crossed that the upper echelons implode in the mean time? It's already happening and it will only get worse.

What must be remembered is once control of the club and its shares are reliquinshed, they won't be coming back again.

Until the day the club goes bust again.

Tat's good advice [^] in these early days of the story breaking, i'm in 2 minds. Yes, we've been screwed over in the past but not everyone that buys a football club is a dodgy cvnt that will ruin us and we're going to need investment eventually, obviously it would be a shame when the fan ownership model does end but it's possible a deal could be struck where a percentage can be retained by the fans
