New frontrunner Roberto Mancini will be happy to speak to Pompey about the job of manager in Sulaiman Al Fahim's new-look club.

The former Inter Milan boss is interested in moving to a forward-thinking Premier League club, although his agent has warned a dispute with Inter could restrict his next move.

Mancini’s name has come to the fore in a race that’s changing by the day.

Already Sven Goran Eriksson and Harry Redknapp have been strongly linked with taking over from Paul Hart when the new owner gets his feet under the table.

The Italian has been out of work since leaving the Serie A champions a year ago, but is still on the payroll at the San Siro.

Until he resolves the dispute with Inter, says agent Maurizio De Giorgis, he cannot take a new job.

De Giorgis admits the 44-year-old would speak to both Pompey and Sunderland about becoming their new manager, while confirming the Wearsiders have not contacted his client, as Mancini had claimed.

Sunderland now appear likely to appoint Steve Bruce as their manager.

‘We haven't had any propositions from any club yet, but Roberto will speak to any English club that has a project for the future,’ said De Giorgis.

‘It doesn't have to be one of the fabulous four clubs, but it has to be a club with ambition and the desire to win something.

‘Those two clubs (Pompey and Sunderland) could be ones we would speak to if we were contacted. But Roberto is still under contract at Inter. It is not a simple task to get him out of the contract, it's not easy.’
