Harry Redknapp and Slaven Bilic are the latest names in the frame as speculation grows over who will manage Pompey under their new owner.

Redknapp’s name is being linked strongly with the job by Paul Smith of the Sunday Mirror, who does have good contacts at Fratton and has been spotted more than once in the director’s box at home games.

The main obstacle in his way of his return is the views of fans, who are bitter at the way Reddknapp left Pompey in the lurch for a second time in four years when he walked out to Spurs seven months ago.

But there was opposition to it last time he came back – and on that occasion, Milan Mandaric bit the bullet and got the reward.

Bilic, who has an impressive record as boss of Croatia, is the other manager being linked by various sources with the job.

Sven Goran Eriksson remains favourite, though Pompey have been quick to deny there’s been any contact with him or his advisers.

In other reports, Peter Crouch may be wanted by Sunderland if they make Steve Bruce their new manager, while Crouch and Glen Johnson are reportedly waiting for assurances over the club’s future being committing themselves to the cause.
