Pompey have denied they are already in talks with Sven-Göran Eriksson – but have admitted there’s a chance Paul Hart could be replaced as manager by the club’s new owner.

Ex-England boss Eriksson has fast emerged as favourite to run the team following the takeover by Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim.

Reports today said Hart had agreed to an offer to take the manager’s job before the takeover was finalized – though with Peter Storrie saying he had been in touch with Dr Al Fahim since February, it seems unlikely he would have offered Hart a long-term contract with the takeover imminent.

In any case, Hart’s apparent keenness to take on the job won’t stop the new man appointing a bigger name, with Eriksson seemingly at the head of the queue.

The Swede has indicated he is interested in the post, and is desperate to return to club management.

But executive chairman Storrie says no-one from Pompey has made contact with Eriksson or his representatives.

Storrie also said he didn't believe there would be big changes with the dawning of the Al Fahim era – a claim that will surprise many fans.

Storrie said of the Eriksson story: 'It's a complete nonsense. No discussions have gone on about a new manager coming in whatsoever. Everything is staying as it is.

'The football manager remains the same and we move forward until such time as the new owner comes in. At that stage decisions will be made at all levels of the business.

'I don't see great changes at this time, but obviously that is a decision for them at that moment. The suggestion that we are in discussions with Sven-Goran Eriksson and other things I think comes from agents.

'That's who I would be looking at. They are the ones putting people's names about. It has Meanwhile, Glen Johnson and Peter Crouch are both said to be keen to stay at Fratton following the takeover news, having been expecting to be sold if the club had stayed cash-strapped.
