Marseille striker Mamadou Niang has become a potential target for Pompey after the player announced he was unsure whether he would be staying at the Velodrome next season.

The 29-year-old Senegal international is one of the most reliable goalscorers in the French league, averaging just under a goal every other game.

This season he has bagged 11 in 26 games, despite haing missed two months with a broken toe, ahead of OM's crucial final match of the season which they have to win to stand any chance of pipping Bordeaux to the title.

Also coveted by Everton, Manchester City and Bolton, Niang may be tempted by the chance to play abroad.

'I haven't deceided anything yet. Many things will influence my decision [whether to leave OM].

'Discussions with the management and the new coach will be paramount. I have heard Didier Deschamps [the new OM coach] wants to keep me. I want to speak with him so I know what he really wants.'

Would Niang fit Pompey's bill? Tell us on the forum.
