Benjani Mwaruwari and Lassana Diarra are set for warm welcomes when they return to Fratton Park on Monday for Kanu’s annual charity game.

Both were hugely popular in their three years and a year respectively with Pompey, and are sure for great ovations in the bank holiday match in aid of the Kanu Heart Foundation.

Sulley Muntari may also play, alongside a galaxy of other African stars.

Kanu said: 'It's the third time we have staged this at Fratton Park and the support from everyone continues to be fantastic. There are a lot of quality African players giving up their time.

'I spoke to Lassana three days ago and he confirmed he will definitely be there.

Benjani is a good friend as well and he has told me he will be there. Sulley said he might be, but he is still very hopeful of joining us at Portsmouth again.

'It will be fantastic to see them again. They are very good players who achieved a lot at this football club with me, and they are looking forward to the occasion.

'It's a good cause and players want to come and be involved and help out in any way they can. They have been so supportive.’

Kanu is confident Pompey fans will turn out in force for the game.

'The Portsmouth fans are great people. They love the club and I know they will be there to support the players,’ he said.

'This is our third year and we are so grateful to them for their encouragement.

'It is so important we keep raising money for the foundation.

'I know they won't let us down, we appreciate it so much, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.'
