Pompey have been linked with Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh who is keen to play in England.

The Morocco international says he wants to leave the French club whether they win the league or not and he has also turned down overtures by Lyon.

'I won't play for another French club. Since I was small I have dreamed of playing in England. My game is made for there,' he said.

However his President at Bordeaux is not so sure he is making the right move and thinks he should wait for a bigger club to come in for him.

Jean-Louis Triaud told radio station RMC: 'I'm not sure that to be transferrred to Bolton, Charlton (sic), Everton or Portsmouth would be a good career move.

'His idea is to go to somewhere like Wigan and then join a big club, but it won't be easy to leave if he signs [a contract] for four years over there.'

French-born Chamakh (25) has scored 50 goals in around 200 appearances for his club.
