Hart stands by 4-5-1 despite Pompey's slide

Paul Hart says he has no qualms about persevering with the 4-5-1 system that has seen the goals – and points – suddenly dry up for Pompey.

Hart insists it is a system which has got the Blues out of relegation trouble over the past couple of months – even if it is also one which has yielded just one point and no goals from the past four games.

Hart said after the 2-0 defeat at Blackburn: 'We've been playing this way for two-and-a-half months and it's got us out of it.

'We were, I think, just outside the relegation zone on goal difference and we've got to this position through sheer hard work and organisation, and everybody working together.

'If you look at the goals we gave away, they never carved us open or moved us around. They weren't goals like that. I think it would be churlish of me to say really that I regret not doing it because we've been red hot really in the last couple of months.'

Hart said the loss at Ewood Park was Pompey’s worst performance since he took over – a view few would disagree with.

'It was by far the worst performance we've had since February. We've not looked anything like that, so that's disappointing,’ he said.

'We made the substitutions and then the penalty was awarded straight away, so that knocked us back.

'We could have actually come away with something, but we've been creating lots of chances in games recently, but not finishing them off.'

Meanwhile, two new transfer targets have emerged over the weekend.

Cardiff centre-half Roger Johnson is being touted as a replacement for Sol Campbell, who seems unlikely to remain in the summer, while Hart is reportedly considering going back to former club Nottingham Forest to snap up 23-year-old midfielder James Perch.
