The feeling is growing that Paul Hart will be offered the chance to manage Pompey next season The feeling is growing that Paul Hart will be offered the chance to manage Pompey next season.

The way he has guided the Blues to safety – they are not quite over the line yet but defeats for Sunderland and Newcastle to Everton and Liverpool on Sunday afternoon mean they almost certainly will be by this time next week – have made Hart strong favourite to get the job in the summer.

Brian Kidd’s future as number two is less certain, with Roy Keane reported to be interested in luring him to Portman Road to help a bid for promotion next season, but Hart seems to have secured his own future at Fratton – despite Saturday’s poor 3-0 loss to Arsenal.

Hart, who headed the Pompey academy from March 2007, took the manager’s job on a temporary basis after the February 8 sacking of Tony Adams.

Three wins and five draws in 11 games since then have won Hart plenty of admirers at Fratton – even if many fans still feel he is too negative.

Pompey’s board are reported to be on the brink of offering Hart and Kidd new two-year deals. Hart has indicated he would like the job longer-term, even if he has spoken of the need to concentrate on this season before thinking of next.

Sven Goran Eriksson, Avram Grant and Martin Jol have all been linked with the Pompey job, but they look like missing out.
