They say size isn’t everything – but it is rather important to Sir Alex Ferguson when it comes to his team visiting Pompey.

The Manchester United boss has launched an extraordinary attack on the size of the dressing rooms at Fratton, Craven Cottage and Goodison Park.

He did not say whether this was supposed to be an excuse for the 11 points his superstars have dropped in three defeats and one draw at Fratton in the six years Pompey have been in the Premier.

It might also explain why Rooney and Co were so off-colour a few weeks ago at Fulham.

Taking his argument to the extreme, the Premier League would be made up of the grounds with the 20 biggest dressing rooms. Never mind how well a side performs on the pitch.

Ferguson said: 'With all the money in the Premier League, some grounds should be better. There should be a minimum standard of size of dressing room, especially now you have more players on your bench and an increased staff.

'You have requirements for stadiums to be eligible for certain divisions, so the quality of the dressing room should be part of that. Everton's are so narrow it is unbelievable.

‘Portsmouth's away dressing room is not great and the one at Craven Cottage is smaller than my office. It is a very traditional stadium and one of my favourite away grounds, but when you have 18 players stripping down, plus coaches, physios and kit men, it is ridiculous, really.

'There is plenty of room in the dressing rooms at Old Trafford and, of the away grounds, Arsenal's are the best by far.'

What’s your view? Should Ferguson keep his nose out of Pompey’s facilities and be glad the Blues haven’t beaten his lot more often? Is he a bad loser always looking for excuses? Or not? Tell us on the forum.
