Younes Kaboul has admitted he is more at home in defence than midfield – but is stressing as well that he is quite at home at Pompey.

The Frenchman has largely impressed fans so far this season, but most believe he looks better at the back than being asked to fill in in the centre of the park, where he got hislatest outing at Spurs at the weekend.

Kaboul has been talking about how well he has settled in at Fratton, and has paid tribute to the way Tony Adams, himself a former defender, can help him improve his game.

Kaboul told The News: 'To me, Portsmouth is a simple city but it has a big heart. Before it was a little bit difficult. I lived in London which is a big place, but it is like a big family here.

'The people at Portsmouth are simple, kind and are like gentlemen. They have good restaurants here and it feels like home now.

'I'm just happy to be back in the squad and I was happy after the game against Tottenham because we played well. We worked really hard and were strong everywhere. I was glad for the team.'

Asked about where he prefers to play, Kaboul said: 'I'm naturally a centre-back, but sometimes I can play in midfield as well. Of course, I'm more comfortable at the back and sometimes in midfield, I'm a little bit lost but that's normal.

'It was good for the team so I wasn't going to say I prefer to stay at the back – I want to play. So if I have to play in midfield sometimes – no problem. I have to pick up some habits in midfield, but at the moment, it's alright.'

'I'm still young so I have to finish my progression. Tony, John, Paul and everybody here help a lot. We work hard every day. We stay after training and it is only like that we can go forward.

'Tony was a good defender and I'm a defender as well so that will help a lot.'
