Harry Redknapp has spoken of his delight at seeing Pompey paired with AC Milan in the UEFA Cup. But his joy comes with a plea: Don't give the game a silly kick-off time.

The Pompey boss was unhappy at the early start for the first leg against Vitoria SC Guiramaes and the late kick-off in Portugal.

He wants a traditional start time for the Italian giants' visit to Fratton on November 27.

'We are looking for a memorable European night under the Fratton Park floodlights but we've already had two silly kick-off times,' he said.

'It was still light when we started against Vitoria at Fratton Park and supporters struggled to get there from work. Then in Portugal the players did not get back to the hotel until 2.30am after the game, just a couple of days before we had to play Stoke in the Premier League.

'The league is always my priority. We are going well again after a tough start this year but you've always got to watch your position because it's a very tight competition, tighter than ever. But AC Milan in a European competition is a one-off occasion. It's a dream tie and it should be a fabulous night.

'Who could imagine the thought of Paulo Maldini, Ronaldinho, Kaka and all those running out to play here but who could have imagined Portsmouth winning the FA Cup and having four players in the England squad? Now it could all happen.'

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have not been on top form lately.

They are in the UEFA Cup having finished fifth in Serie A last season, failing to qualify for the Champions League. After six games this season they lie eighth, having lost 2-1 at home to Bologna and 2-0 in Genoa in their opening two games.

Milan defeated current leaders Lazio 4-1, Reggina 2-1 and Inter Milan 1-0. But last week that winning run was halted when they drew 0-0 at bottom club Cagliari.
