Peter Crouch is wary of Guimaraes' threat ahead of the second leg of the UEFA Cup first round tie, but he is backing his side to get through.

The England striker reckons the depth of European experience in the squad will be crucial in getting the right result.

Pompey beat the Portuguese side 2-0 a fortnight ago, but need to avoid any slip ups to secure their place ion the group stages of the competition.

“Sometimes you can get two very different games over two legs in Europe. Vitoria are at home with the support behind them and will be raring to go," Crouch told the official site.

“But if we score it will make it very difficult for them. We’ve got enough players with the ability to win the game.

“Of course, you’re aware that you’re 2-0 up from the first leg, but we’ll go out and try to win the game. That’s our focus. I don’t think any of us will sit back and hope for a draw.

“Vitoria narrowly missed out on the Champions League, so obviously they’re a good team with good individuals. We won’t be taking them lightly.

“But the majority of our players have played in Europe, so the experience of playing in a game like this won’t be unusual. It will help us that we’ve got a lot of experienced internationals.”
