Former Pompey midfielder Franck Songo'o has spoken of his disappointment that the club wanted too much for him as he looked to get away.

The Cameroon international - just back from the Olympics - has now signed for Real Zaragoza, but he doesn't remember his time in England with too much fondness.

"It was Alain Perrin who wanted me to come to Portsmouth and with him in charge I played several times in the first team," he said.

"Then I went away on international duty and when I came back, he'd been fired." That was in November 2005, four months after Songo'o had arrived from Barcelona.

"After that it was difficult for the club to give a chance to an 18-year-old youngster, while the results were so poor.

"After that I had several contacts with Premier League clubs, but each time Portsmouth asked for too much. Today I am in Spain and I am very happy."

Songo'o had a number of loans to Championship sides, including Sheffield Wednesday and Ctrystal Palace, but in the summer of 2008 he agreed a deal to free himself from his contract at Fratton Park and try his luck elsewhere.

Songo'o hopes to help guide Zaragoza back to the Spanish top flight this season. has team up with at Devoted to Sport to allow TrueBlueArmy readers to have the chance of winning a great Pompey prize worth £49.95! Click here to find out more.
