Eidur Gudjohnsen is still interesting Pompey - but they have ended their interest in taking Milan Baros from Lyon after his loan spell came to an end.
The News reports that Harry Redknapp has again spoken of his admiration for the Barcelona striker, a viable alternative to No1 striker target Peter Crouch.

Redknapp is weighing up a move for the wantaway Icelandic international – thought to be available for around £4m – if his bid to land Crouch is derailed, says the paper.

Gudjohnsen is still under contract at the Nou Camp and would command wages in the region of £100,000 a week.

Redknapp admitted he would still love to bring England striker Crouch back to Fratton Park. The likelihood of that happening appeared to move closer with the news Liverpool would be willing to negotiate a £10m deal.

But that seems to be just above the ceiling Pompey are putting on the 27-year-old's value.

Redknapp said: 'We are looking, but it is not always easy to get in the people we are looking for. But we are moving along and something could happen soon. Crouchy is a brilliant lad and I do like him a great deal. I suppose if Peter Storrie was negotiating with Liverpool though, he wouldn't want me throwing figures around.

'We might feel Liverpool want a little too much for him even at £10m. We might want to pay a bit less, so it wouldn't be right for me to say a price. At the end of the day he still belongs to Liverpool.

'I doubt if they would want me talking about their players really. I've always said I like Peter, though. There might be a deal there. If there's not then we will move on.

'Eidur is a good player, a proper player. It does look like he is leaving Barcelona. If that's the case he'd definitely be the type of player we'd be interested in. He's someone I know and he's good friends with Jamie (Redknapp). He's a good lad and a top player.'

The chances of Djibril Cisse arriving are receding, despite Cisse's agent telling The News this week he would jump at the chance to join Pompey.

Pompey have confirmed they don't want to take Baros permanently - he failed to score in a three-month loan spell last season.
The Sun today says Redknapp is ready to make a £3.5m bid for Reading left-back Nicky Shorey.
