Euro 2008 kicks off with Pompey confident they will hold on to the two members of their squad who are in the shop window in Switzerland and Austria.

There's already been interest reported in Niko Kranjcar and Lassana Diarra, who are both set to feature as Croatia and France kick off their respective bids to become European champions on Sunday and Monday.

But Pompey officials reckon both will still be at Fratton Park come the start of the new season - playing down talk that Spurs want Diarra and Arsenal may bid for Kranjcar.

Chief executive Peter Storrie told The News he had been talking to Spurs chief Daniel levy - but it seems the French midfielder wasn't on the menu.

'I have been at the Premier League meeting and have been with the representatives of all the clubs. I had dinner with Daniel Levy from Spurs. If they were interested in Lassana Diarra I think he might have mentioned something,' Storrie told The News.

'Being that I'm up at this meeting with Spurs I think I might have an insight into that. Lassana is one of our mopst important players and only arrived in January. He's not for sale and that's the end of it.'

Meanwhile, Tony Adams believes Kranjcar's already on a stage big enough for his talents - that stage being Pompey.

The Pompey coach is more concerned that Kranjcar will end Euro 2008 burned out rather than wanted by a bigger club, and said the Blues would have to treat him carefully when he returned them for pre-season just a couple of weeks after the Euros end.

'Niko's shone. He's got goals for Portsmouth, he's got goals for his country. He's been my player of the season,' Adams said.

'He's a quality player doing well. We finished in the top half of the table, we won the FA Cup. He's playing well for his country - it's inevitable to be linked to other clubs.

'It should be a complement to how he's doing at Portsmouth.

'This is a stage and there is no reason to leave it."
