Linvoy Primus is eyeing up playing a part in the Community Shield and Pompey's UEFA Cup campaign as he nears the end of his recovery from knee surgery.

The defender, who has recently signed a new contract, is pencilled in to join up with the squad for the start of pre-season around six or seven weeks from now.

And having missed out on Pompey's run to FA Cup glory this season, he is desperate to pull on the blue shirt under the arch when Pompey return to play Manchester united on Sunday, August 10.

'I definitely hope to be involved in that match. That’s the plan,' he told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk. 'A The team have held their end up so now it's up to me. And, of course, Europe! I keep forgetting about that.

'It’s not until the realisation that you’ve won the cup goes away, that you think of Europe but it’s going to be great. It’s an amazing place to be and it’s like a dream really. You know you’re there, but until you actually see that first fixture it’s hard to believe.

'I keep comparing it to having the planet Earth, then you’ve got space, the universe and we’re beyond that compared to where we were not too long ago. That’s football – it’s a strange game and I’m glad we’ve beaten all expectations.'

Primus spoke of his mixed emotions at not having played in the final.

'It’s hard to describe how it feels. Because you didn’t play you don’t feel like you’ve done the work, but because of the fans appreciation for me it was special.

'Before the match I had so many messages from people saying they were sad I couldn’t play and that’s nice. I think they probably recognised how much I was hurting about not being able to play but I’m so happy - for the team and for our supporters.

“It’s going to make the summer very enjoyable. For me it seals what’s been a great season on the pitch for everybody. What we’ve done in the league is great, and to win the cup is great.'

Meanwhile, fans are reminded this Friday is the deadline for season tickets to be renewed. Any not renewed will go on general sale after that, although supporters who want to switch seats can do so on June 5 and 6.
