John Sullivan has become the first player to leave Pompey - albeit on loan until the end of the season - in what promises to be a busy month for outs as well as ins at Fratton. And the next two to discover whether they will follow him will be those whose deals are about to run out - Shaun Cooper and Marcos Painter.

Sullivan has gone on loan to Conference Premier side Cambridge United. He made seven Blues starts in the first two months of the campaign but has failed to regain his place since the disastrous 4-2 defeat at York.

Meanwhile, Pompey boss Richie Barker plans talks with utility man Cooper when he is closer to fitness, telling The News: 'I need to have a conversation with Shaun (about his contract).

‘At the moment we are trying to get him through his rehab and I think it is a conversation we will have when he’s at least back and training. It will be talked about when he’s a little bit closer.'

Painter is another, like Cooper, whose season has been disrupted by injury and Barker will need to decide whether he is best keeping a player whose value to the squad he has some idea of, or letting him go in the hope of freeing up space for a useful addition.

Those coming into the club could include West Ham defender Dan Potts, Bournemouth midfielder Wes Fogden and former Fratton loanee Jake Jervis.
