Pompey have an extra week to get injured players fit and new players into Fratton Park after the home clash with Accrington Stanley fell victim to a waterlogged pitch.

The call-off was inevitable with more heavy rain today and even more due on Saturday. An inspection of the Fratton pitch by local referee Andy Davies confirmed everyone's fears.

Davies told the Pompey website: 'The pitch was very wet, with standing water in various areas. It’s barely playable at the moment, but we’ve also had to take into account the weather forecast, which is pretty dire for the next 24 hours.

'The pitch would therefore be unplayable and it would be dangerous for the players, which is our ultimate concern.'

A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course. Tickets already been bought will be valid.

Better news for Pompey came with the revelation Thery Racon had signed a new deal which will keep him here until the end of the season.

The former Millwall man has played ten matches for Pompey since starting his second Fratton spell in October and said: 'I'm very happy to be here for the rest of the season and now I can fully focus on my football and helping Pompey to climb the table.'
