Pompey midfielder Simon Ferry is confident the team can start to climb the league soon - provided they can find some consistency.

The former Swindon midfielder returned to action on Saturday at Torquay after a month out with a hamstring injury.

In that time Pompey have put together a decent unbeaten run of five games in league and cup, but Ferry admits it's not enough.

‘We’re going forward but we need to put a run of wins together and that’s not easy. We have good players and teams are inconsistent in this league,' he told The News.

‘We need to get up the league, but when there’s so many players coming in it’s hard to get a rhythm going, but credit to the boys, they’ve kept it going and it’s five unbeaten now.

‘If we could have turned a couple of those draws into wins we’d be right up there.

‘It’s a tight league and teams are inconsistent. You never know in this league. Chesterfield must’ve thought they were going to run away with the league, then they got pulled back.

‘People are in this league because they are inconsistent. They are good players but inconsistency creeps in. It’s the teams who can show that bit of consistency who will do well.’

Pompey face a number of teams around them in the league in November, starting with the visit of Exeter City on Saturday.

The Devon side have 24 points and sit in fifth place, just seven points ahead of Pompey, who have a game in hand after the abandonment ot the Wycombe game, which has provisionally been rearranged for December 4th at 7.45pm.
