Pompey's players know all about the challenge of trying to get on with the football while off-field problems hang over a club - but Guy Whittingham reckons that's exactly what Coventry will do at Fratton on Saturday.

The Sky Blues have hit financial trouble over unpaid rent bills at the Ricoh Arena but Whittingham expects their players to be unaffected when they face his improving team on Saturday.

The caretaker boss told the official website: 'I doubt it will affect them on the pitch too much. They’ll be well organised and we’ll expect a tough test. They’ve got a strong squad and have taken seven points from a possible nine since Steven Pressley took over as manager earlier this month.

'When you come into a successful club you don’t want to change things too much, but you want to get your ideas across and that’s what he appears to have down. They’re currently only three points adrift of the play-off places and have got a good goal difference, so we know we’ll have to be at our best.'

Whittingham said Pompey needed to show their fightback at Doncaster was the rule and not the exception to it as far as current form went.

He added: 'It gives you a bit of confidence to come from behind and get a point against the league leaders. But I was pleased to see that the players weren’t delighted after the game because it should that they’re all determined to do their best and get more wins.'
