James Keene says he can't wait to resume his Pompey career - though he admits coming to a club in the Blues' state is a huge challenge.

Keene left Fratton when he was still a teenager after failing to pin down regular first-team football but has returned on a one-month loan deal from Swedish side Elfsborg.

Keene told the club website he was happy to be 'home' and was looking forward to his second Pompey debut - if selected - when Notts County visit Fratton on Saturday.

'It was a long time ago that I was last here and it feels great to be back – it’s nice to come home. The club’s position has changed a lot, but there are still a few familiar faces around the place.

'I know Awfs and Guy very well and they asked if I wanted to come and train for a few days and now it’s turned into something more. I left here when I was 18 so it’s been a while, but I’m looking forward to playing in England again for a massive club. I made my Pompey debut at Fratton Park and it’ll be nice to get back out on the pitch again.

'I’ll work hard for the team and try to help the club win some games – hopefully I’ll provide a few goals as well. It’s going to be big challenge – everyone understands that. No-one said it’s going to be easy, but I’m looking forward to what lies ahead.'

Goalkeeper Phil Smith has penned a new one-month deal but Saturday will see Fratton farewells for the likes of Jon Harley, Mustapha Dumbuya, Lee Williamson and Brian Howard, whose one-month deals are not being renewed.
