Pompey have brought in two new faces as they look to end their disastrous losing streak.

They go to Coventry on Saturday buoyed by the arrival of goalkeeper Alex Cisak, an Australian under-20 international, and striker Jake Jervis, who have been recruited on loan from Oldham and Birmingham.

And they have been joined by highly-rated QPR midfielder Frankie Sutherland (18) whose arrival on loan for an initial month was confirmed this evening.

Pompey caretaker manager Guy Whittingham told the club website: 'Alex is an experienced keeper who will talk to the back four. He’s someone that the defence can have a lot of confidence in. It’s a big advantage that he’s played plenty of games in this league and knows what it takes to do well in it.

'I’m sure our fans will remember Jake scoring against us for Carlisle earlier this season and he’s someone who know where the net is. He also went to Tranmere for a bit and they’re top of the league, so he must be a decent player. Now the strikers will all know that there’s someone on the bench and that they can be replaced. It provides competition for places, which is something you need all over the pitch.'

After seven straight defeats, Whittingham takes his team to the Ricoh Arena desperate for an upturn in fortunes and looking for his team to make a good start to the game.

He said: 'The performance in each half on Tuesday was like chalk and cheese. We were much better in the second half and there was more pride and determination in the way we went about things. We have to do that from the start on Saturday.

'If we work hard we’ll create chances and if we keep creating chances then we’ll score goals. So we just need to make sure we work hard. We’ve got a two week break after Saturday because of our exit from the FA Cup, so it’s important that we get a result to give us something to build on.'
