Greg Halford says Pompey must take more of their chances if they want to start climbing the table.

The defender was unhappy the team had not turned their clear-cut chances into the goals that would have killed off promotion hopefuls Blackpool before their equaliser from a late free-kick by Stephen Crainey.

But he admitted a point was probably a fair return - and arguably one that Pompey would have settled for before the game. Michael Appleton's team will look to play as well - but win as well - at home to Ipswich on Tuesday night.

Halford told the club's official website he was unhappy to have the equalising free-kick given against him.

'It was probably a fair result, but I’m devastated by the manner in which they scored their goal. It was never a free-kick. I spoke to the referee when he gave it and he told me he had heard it. I’m not sure that’s a good reason to give it. He didn’t say he saw any contact, he just said that he had heard it,' he said.

'Blackpool play a very high line and that’s dangerous against us because we’ve got Erik who plays off the shoulder. He scored a good goal and had some more chances. We create chances in games – we just have to be more clinical.

'The gaffer told us in the dressing room that if we want to climb the table we have to take our chances. We had three or four great opportunities to go two goals up and that would have killed the game off.

'I think we would have taken a point before the game because they’re a good side. They play good football and I think the pitch favoured us a bit. It wasn’t in good condition at all and we used that to our advantage.
