Jason Pearce said Pompey's win at Peterborough showed the togetherness in the Blues camp.

The second away victory of the season was the perfect start to what is likely to be another difficult week at Fratton - with Pearce's own future in the spotlight as he is one of two players wanted by Ipswich.

Michael Appleton may find himself under pressure to sell Pearce and other members of the squad, but for now at least Pompey's fans can bask in the glow of a vital win - and of praise from Pearce for their part in a great day.

Pearce told the Pompey website: 'It was a great team performance. We knew what we had to do and everyone showed great commitment. It was a great result and we needed it. Erik got two and I was delighted to get on the scoresheet as well.

'I’ve been working hard in training at getting in at the front post and I’ve scored a good goal. I was desperate to get on the end of it. I think everyone saw from my celebration that I didn’t really know what I was doing! I’m delighted for myself, but more importantly for the team.

'Everyone was brilliant. Stephen Henderson didn’t have to do too much and that’s a credit to the whole team. We’re all delighted and I don’t want to pick anyone out because everyone had a great game. The performance showed how together we all are, but now we have to push on and build on this result.

'The support was superb. I didn’t expect that many to come and they were brilliant throughout the game – as they have been for the whole season. We haven’t given them too much to cheer about away from home, but performances like that make the journey worthwhile.'

Pompey have no midweek game, like most Championship clubs, but host Hull next Saturday before heading to Birmingham the following Tuesday.
