Jonathan Hogg reckons Pompey can revive their fading play-off hopes with back-to-back wins in next week's home games against Preston and Coventry.

The on-loan midfielder admitted losing at Reading was a big setback but he does not believe their hopes of finishing in the top six are over just yet. Hogg blamed the host of missed chances for the Blues' failure to register a return from the trip to the Madejski.

Hogg told the Pompey website the team needed to recover quickly from the defeat - which he said had a lot to do with Ricardo Rocha's contorversial sending-off.

'It obviously would have been nice to get the win but we haven’t fallen too far behind the top six. If we win the next couple of games then we’ll be back on track.

'The sending off was a massive moment. I thought it was harsh and it wasn’t a penalty because it was outside the box. But it was sloppy from us. We shouldn’t have really allowed ourselves to get into the position where Ricardo was sent off.

'And with the chances we had in the opening stages of the game, we could have been three or four up. We started brightly and got some chances, but we just didn’t take them. You’ve got to take your chances when they come – that’s what wins you football matches.

'If we’d have got that opening goal then I would have fancied us to go on and win the game. But the boys kept going. We dug in like we always do and continued to work hard. That’s because of the good team spirit we have in the squad.'
