Pompey are listening, but will they go on listening?

It's a start, but little more. Pompey have extended the period in which fans can renew season tickets at early-bird prices - but they still have a long way to go to quell the anger they have caused with their price hikes and payment restrictions.

Supporters now have until April 28 to renew at the lower prices, and Pompey are hopeful that within that time the option to pay by credit or debit card will be reinstated. But they have accepted that other concerns raised by fans remain.

Chief executive David Lampitt told the PFC website: 'We have listened to the concerns of fans and extended the early bird period for another four weeks.

This longer time period ends on the final working day of April, addressing supporters’ feedback about the need to incorporate another pay-day in the early bird window.

'We are working towards having credit/debit card payment options for supporters and expect this facility to be available before the early bird period ends.

'The extension of the early bird period has been dealt with because that was the most important and pressing issue, but we know there are a number of issues that have been flagged up by fans and we will continue to give them consideration.'

The climbdown follows talks with fans groups last week, although it will have come too late for some, who have already decided they won't be renewing.

The fact there is a price increase is too much for some fans to accept, while worries over who they are paying money up front to is another concern.

Pompey said 2,000 people had renewed their season tickets so far.
