The 2011-12 season may be some way off, but Pompey boss Steve Cotterill is already planning for it.

He is trying to put into place plans for the Blues’ pre-season tour- which may take them to Austria or the east coast of the USA – and is also working on the names of players he’d like to add to his squad.

Cotterill is keen to avoid a repeat of last summer when his wafer-thin squad was sent on a problem-laden trapise around North America. He told The News: ‘There have been conversations and discussions about one pre-season tour.

‘I will know a little bit more about it after the international break. There are a few things I’m working on. It takes a bit of time to sort out. At the moment, I am barking up one tree and if that turns into something then we will do it. I have started that process already.

‘But I need to wait and see if it’s viable for us to do it. I’m looking at that first. Until that one is dead and buried or sorted, then I won’t move on to something else.’

Cotterill added: ‘I’ve still been doing other things as well. I have also been looking forward with players, too.’

Meanwhile, the mysterty over Tal Ben Haim’s non-appearance in a Pompey shirt – or any other club’s shirt – deepens. It was suggested last month that the Blues could not select him again because of a dispute with West Ham. But The Guardian are reporting the Hammers as denying any knowledge of such a dispute.

Ben Haim is reported to be earning more than £30,000 a week.
