Liam Lawrence reckons a win at Leicester next weekend can reignite Pompey's play-off push - but he admits they probably need to win all their remaining nine games to make a top-six finish.

The Irishman had mixed feelings after making his comeback from injury in the 0-0 Fratton Park draw with Middlesbrough. He was delighted to be back - but gutted the Blues hadn't managed the win their ambitions demanded.

Lawrence told the Pompey website: 'We were looking to win against Middlesbrough and try to get into the play-offs. We probably need to win all our games now to make that a reality. In the first half we had some good chances and maybe should have scored twice.

'But in the second half it was a bit of a struggle. We didn’t get hold of things and we didn’t play like we know we can. In the end we drew the game but we were very disappointed and the manager wasn’t happy.

'But if we beat Leicester next week then we’ve got a good chance still because there are a lot of teams who are dropping points.'

Lawrence said he hasd suffered no reaction to his recent calf injury and was looking forward to keeping fit for the remainder of the campaign.

'I feel alright – I’m just dying to play games now. I was a bit tired because when you don’t train for three weeks it takes it out of you. This calf’s been doing my head in for two months now. I’ve been playing with injections for two or three weeks and I’m just glad it’s sorted,' he said.

'I haven’t had any reaction from playing, so fingers crossed. We’ve had a lot of games in a short period and we haven’t got the biggest squad, so it’s been tough. But with me coming back it adds another player to the mould.

'We’ve had seven games in three weeks – and it’s been a long three weeks. Now we’ve got a week until the next game at Leicester which will give everyone a chance to recharge the batteries.'
